Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

The Final Quality Inspection (FQI) technician works under general direction, follows oral and/or written instruction and performs Inspection and testing processes to produce tested electro-mechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies and accessories.  This position requires a highly-motivated team player to support quality screening for surgical robotic systems, instruments and accessories by simulating customer use, identify potential quality issues and working cross functionally with manufacturing and quality engineering teams to correct and verify issues prior to product release.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Follows all applicable work instructions to perform simulated surgical procedures utilizing a surgical robotic system and accessories.
  • Performing inspections at random to assess product quality.
  • Measure objects comparing to their intended physical specifications, perform quality tests and identifying defects.
  • Recording inspection results inputting data into quality database.
  • Communicate and troubleshoot product non-conformances to Manufacturing and Quality Control Engineering (QCE). 
  • Run automated software tests.
  • Accurately record detailed observations of non-conformances in the Device History Record using the correct product and troubleshooting terminology to support root cause analysis and issue resolution
  • Follows all corporate, safety, production procedures and regulations
  • Maintains a clean and orderly workstation.
  • Assures that the FQI team adheres to the company standards and regulations
  • Maintains an excellent attendance record in compliance with established manufacturing and quality attendance guidelines. 
  • Verify kanban levels for consumables and supplements for FQI.
  • Ability to perform monthly PMC verification, including configuration and result sheet.
  • Perform production order line clearance.
  • Mentor others in areas of expertise (as needed).
  • Perform quality notifications as NCR and EE.
  • Provide support required to maintain line running.
  • Operate and set up (as needed), test equipment/fixtures.
  • Record results of samples to calculate DPMs (Defects Per Million).
  • Support for the engineering team with tests or special requirements during investigations for quality events.
  • Maintain ISU records on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • Must be able to complete training and certification on Final Quality Inspection procedures.
  • Education and/or Experience:  High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 6 months of experience at Intuitive Surgical and knowledge of SAP transactions, QN origination as well as a technician in good standing related to Manufacturing Attendance Guidelines and Quality performance is preferred. 
  • Language Skills: Basic ability to read, write and understand English on day-to-day activities. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees, supervisors, or engineers.
  • Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to determine the minimum, maximum and nominal value when provided with a specification and a tolerance.
  • Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.  Ability to deal with situations including up to several variables.  Ability to report actual or potential quality issues. Ability to suggest simple process improvements.
  • Computer skills:  Proficient in use of personal computers as part of daily work, including knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and e-mail, SAP to perform multiple inspection transactions and review product DHR. Ability to use ACCS (Agile) system to retrieve specifications, procedures, BOM structures, revisions and versions.  
  • Other skills and abilities:  Ability to work varying shifts. Must have ability to complete training courses.  Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to use clocks, timers, calipers, voltmeters, power supplies, rulers, and other test equipment as required.  Meticulous attention to detail and orderly habits are required to accurately and completely document testing.  Flexibility, willingness to learn new tasks, ability to take-on a variety of responsibilities big and small, and the need to fill-in for others when needed are highly preferred attributes for this position.
