Sr Cybersecurity Engineer

Yesterday Atlanta, GA

Overview

The Cybersecurity Engineering team designs, implements, and continuously improves the technical security controls that protect Insight Global's people, data, and platforms. We work in close partnership with Cyber Operations, IT, Cloud, Network, and Endpoint teams to ensure security capabilities are effective, scalable, and operationally sound.

We are seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer who is fundamentally a senior cloud and infrastructure engineer with a strong security mindset. This role serves as a technical subject matter expert across security-relevant domains and operates effectively in complex, ambiguous environments.

This position operates in a risk-informed, risk-acceptance environment. Rather than pursuing absolute risk elimination, Senior Engineers partner with leadership and delivery teams to evaluate tradeoffs, recommend pragmatic controls, and help the organization make informed security decisions aligned to business priorities.

Senior Engineers are expected to influence technical direction through expertise, partner closely with leadership and cross-functional teams, mentor others through example, and help raise the overall maturity of the cybersecurity program.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical subject matter expert for enterprise security controls across identity, endpoint, network, logging, and data protection domains.

• Design, implement, and continuously improve security controls in collaboration with Cloud, Infrastructure, Network, Endpoint, IT, Cyber Operations and Cyber Architect teams.

• Partner with cybersecurity leadership and engineering teams to analyze complex technical and security challenges, evaluate risk, and recommend balanced, practical solutions.

• Provide technical leadership and deep expertise for major security initiatives such as:

o Endpoint and identity hardening programs

o SIEM and logging modernization

o Network security architecture improvements (e.g., NGFW, segmentation, NDR)

o Data protection and governance initiatives

o Security tooling evaluation and rationalization

• Translate high-level security objectives into clear technical guidance and implementation patterns, balancing risk reduction, operational impact, cost, and long-term sustainability.

• Contribute to a culture that values measured risk acceptance, sound engineering judgment, and documented decision-making over rigid control enforcement.

• Partner closely with Cyber Operations to ensure engineering decisions result in meaningful, actionable detection and response capabilities.

• Mentor and support junior engineers by sharing expertise, experience, setting technical standards, and raising overall engineering quality.

• Contribute to annual and multi-year security planning efforts that support organizational growth and an evolving risk profile.

• Create and maintain clear, high-quality technical documentation, including standards, reference architectures, and implementation guidance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• 6-10 years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, or platform engineering, with demonstrated delivery in enterprise environments (e.g., identity, endpoint management, networking, automation, systems reliability) and a strong security mindset.

• Strong understanding of security controls and design patterns across identity, endpoint, network, logging/telemetry, and data protection domains-particularly in modern cloud and hybrid environments.

• Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally (Security, IT, Cloud, Network, Operations) and with leadership to solve complex, ambiguous technical problems, including recommending pragmatic controls in a risk acceptance and tradeoff-driven environment.

• Experience operating beyond ticket execution: ability to define problems, form technical recommendations, and drive outcomes through influence and collaboration-not just complete assigned tasks.

• Prior experience may include other engineering disciplines (systems, infrastructure, cloud, SRE, platform, or network engineering).

Preferred Experience:

1) Microsoft Security Engineering

• Experience engineering enterprise Microsoft security platforms, such as:

o Microsoft 365

o Entra ID (Azure AD)

o Microsoft Intune

o Microsoft Defender (Endpoint, Identity, Cloud)

• Hands-on experience with:

o Microsoft Intune architecture and deployment models

o Endpoint compliance enforcement and device trust

o Device configuration profiles and security baselines (Windows / M365)

o Attack Surface Reduction (ASR) rules

o Defender for Endpoint integration

o Autopilot deployment strategies

o MDM / MAM implementations

o Endpoint hardening standards

• Microsoft security certifications or equivalent demonstrated expertise are a plus.

2) Broader Security & Infrastructure Experience

• Experience contributing to or leading enterprise security modernization efforts.

• Strong understanding of infrastructure and networking concepts, including routing, DNS, PKI, encryption, and certificate management.

• Experience improving security telemetry and detection quality, such as logging pipelines or alert fidelity.

• Familiarity with data governance and protection programs (e.g., DLP, data discovery/classification).

• Comfort using automation or scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) to improve consistency, reliability, and scale.

• Experience supporting or preparing environments for external audits or security certifications.

What Success Looks Like:

• You are a trusted subject matter expert for complex infrastructure and security decisions.

• Your technical guidance enables leadership and teams to make well-informed, risk-balanced security choices.

• Security controls are implemented thoughtfully, documented clearly, and evolve alongside business needs.

• You influence outcomes through expertise, collaboration, and credibility, not rigid enforcement.

• You help the organization mature its security posture while maintaining speed, flexibility, and pragmatism.
