Role Description:

A Lead Consultant with Java and AS/400 skills is responsible for leading the design, development, and support of enterprise applications, combining modern technologies with legacy AS/400 systems. This role demands strong expertise in both platforms, team leadership capabilities and effective communication with all stakeholders like clients and cross-functional teams.

Salary: NZD 143 - NZD 153 Annual Gross

Roles and Responsibilities:
This role is for a fixed term engagement, and this role is required solely to deliver a defined set of system changes to Suncorp's legacy Solvit platform, built on RPG/RPG ILE and AS400 technology.
This project "Suncorp - Solvit System Enhancement Project" includes:
- Integration of the legacy Solvit system with a new enterprise pricing engine
- Enhancements required to support regulatory changes mandated for NZ insurance products
- Delivery of fully working system components by the date set by Suncorp to ensure regulatory readiness
- Analysing existing Solvit components relevant to pricing workflows
- Designing and implementing modifications required to interface with the new pricing engine being rolled out by Suncorp
- Delivering changes required for compliance with the new insurance regulatory standards
- Supporting system testing, integration, and deployment activities
- Working directly with Suncorp SMEs and Infosys architects on this single scoped initiative
- All Solvit related enhancements for this regulatory release will be complete
- No additional backlog work has been committed or contracted
- Further work, if any, would require separate approvals and budgeting from Suncorp
Technical competencies needed:
- 10+ years' development and support experience on Java and/or AS400 platform.
- Sound knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) Patterns and Concepts
- Familiarity with different design and architectural patterns
- Design, develop, and maintain AS400 applications using RPG, RPGILE and SYNON. Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Modify and enhance existing AS400 programs. Perform unit testing and resolve software defects. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for AS400 systems.
- Skill for writing reusable Java libraries
- Basic Understanding of the concepts of MVC (Model-View-Controller) Pattern, JDBC (Java Database Connectivity), and RESTful web services
- Experience in working with popular web application frameworks like Play and Spark
- Relevant Knowledge of Java GUI frameworks like Swing, SWT, AWT according to project requirements
- Ability to write clean, readable code following standard guidelines
- Experience in handling external and embedded databases and AS400 databases
- Understanding basic design principles behind a scalable application
- Tertiary Qualification in IT / Computer Science / related discipline.

- Excellent customer interfacing skills.
