Job Description
We are seeking an Employment Counsel to join our high-calibre EMEA Employment Law team, supporting France and broader EMEA matters. This France-based role will provide comprehensive in-house support across the full lifecycle of French employment law and will also involve working on matters in other jurisdictions, together with members of the global legal team.
You will work within the EMEA Employment Law team across multiple jurisdictions and time zones. You will have the opportunity to work in other jurisdictions, collaborate with external counsel, and develop a global perspective on employment law. Strong communication skills and a flexible, collaborative working style are essential. Open-mindedness towards different legal cultures and an eagerness to learn will be key to success in this role. You will work on the full lifecycle of employment law matters, including but not limited to day-to-day advisory support, compliance, strategic guidance, employment law support in deals, and coordination of cross-border issues.
Key and prominent responsibilities (not an exhaustive list):
- Provide expert advice on French employment law, including individual and collective labour matters.
- Support ongoing compliance initiatives (working time, internal regulations, WFH, elections, disciplinary matters, etc.).
- Provide deal support and advice in ARD transfers (Article L. 1224-1).
- Manage and advise on contentious matters, including liaison with external counsel where required.
- Support HR and business leaders on employee lifecycle issues (contracts, onboarding, performance, dismissal, mobility).
- Contribute to EMEA - wide projects involving cross - border issues, policies, and labor standards.
- Collaborate with legal colleagues globally to support knowledge building and harmonization of practices.
- Ensure timely and practical support to stakeholders and drive legal risk mitigation.
Qualifications
It is essential that you are qualified to practice law in France and experience in working in the international environment.
- Legally qualified in France with the ability to practice French employment law.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is essential, as the role requires daily interaction with global teams.
- 3-6 years of post-qualification experience (guideline only; candidates with relevant skills will be considered).
- Demonstrated experience advising on French employment litigation, compliance, and HR policy matters.
- Experience or exposure to other European jurisdictions, particularly Switzerland, Spain, Italy or Belgium, is advantageous but not required.
- Prior in-house experience is advantageous but not required.
