Facilities Engineer - Infrastructure Design & ValidationRole Purpose
The professional will be responsible for the design, technical review, validation, and quality assurance of critical infrastructure for industrial, mining, electrical, and/or telecommunications facilities.
The primary focus is to lead specialized design activities for HVAC systems, fire protection systems, and electrical systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and infrastructure reliability.
Main Responsibilities
1. HVAC System Design and Validation
- Design HVAC and ventilation systems for electrical rooms, Data Centers, and telecommunications rooms.
- Perform thermal load calculations and select appropriate equipment (Chillers, AHU, VRV/VRF).
- Carry out duct sizing, pressure drop calculations, and design of extraction and pressurization systems.
- Develop and review drawings, calculation reports, and technical specifications.
- Validate installations through FAT/SAT testing, ensuring design compliance.
- Apply and monitor adherence to ASHRAE, SMACNA, and NFPA (as applicable) standards.
- Use technical software such as AutoCAD and thermal calculation tools (HAP or equivalent).
- Integrate criteria on energy efficiency, industrial refrigeration, HVAC control, and ventilation for mining environments.
2. Fire Protection System Design and Validation
- Design fire detection systems (conventional and addressable) and automatic sprinkler systems.
- Design clean agent suppression systems (FM-200, Novec 1230).
- Develop designs for wet and dry pipe networks.
- Prepare hydraulic calculation reports, P&ID drawings, and network calculations (flow, pressure, pump sizing).
- Calculate water storage autonomy, zoning, and cause-effect matrices.
- Participate in FAT/SAT testing and system commissioning.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA (13, 20, 72, 2001), FM Global, and (ideally) mining standards.
- Use AutoCAD and specialized hydraulic calculation software.
3. Electrical System Design and Validation
- Design Medium and Low Voltage electrical systems, power distribution, and lighting.
- Specify and review electrical panels and backup systems (UPS, generators, ATS).
- Perform demand calculations, load balancing, voltage drop calculations, conductor and protection selection.
- Design grounding systems and validate systems through FAT/SAT and commissioning.
- Develop single-line diagrams, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
- Apply industry standards including IEC, IEEE, NFPA (70 - NEC), SEC, and (ideally) mining standards.
- Use AutoCAD and electrical analysis tools such as ETAP, DigSILENT, or SKM.

Role Requirements
Education
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or related fields.
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC, fire protection, and/or electrical system design.
- Experience in mining or industrial projects is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in FAT/SAT testing, commissioning, and validation of critical infrastructure.
- HVAC: ASHRAE, SMACNA, energy efficiency, refrigeration, mining ventilation.
- Fire Protection: NFPA standards, FM Global.
- Electrical: IEC, IEEE, NEC, SEC.
- Software: AutoCAD, HAP, hydraulic calculation tools, ETAP/DigSILENT/SKM, Advanced Excel.
- Intermediate English level (desirable).
