Collections Specialist
Location: San Jose, Costa Rica
English and Spanish is required for this role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Collections Specialist to manage overdue accounts and ensure timely payments from customers. This role is essential in maintaining healthy cash flow, minimizing bad debts, and supporting the company's financial stability. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to maintain positive client relationships while effectively recovering outstanding balances.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor customer accounts to identify outstanding and overdue balances.
  • Manage a portfolio of accounts to ensure timely and consistent collections.
  • Analyze historical payment data to identify trends and potential risks.
  • Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate records of account status and collection activities.
  • Contact clients via phone, email, and written correspondence regarding overdue payments.
  • Clearly explain outstanding balances and available payment options.
  • Negotiate payment plans and settlements in line with company policies.
  • Address and resolve customer inquiries, complaints, and billing disputes.
  • Maintain a professional and empathetic tone in all communications.

Qualifications:

Basic
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least two years of experience in collections, accounts receivable, or a similar role.

Preferred:
  • Experience working with international clients or multilingual environments.
  • Familiarity with compliance and legal aspects of debt collection.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of billing procedures and collection techniques.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience with accounting or ERP systems.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
