We are seeking a seasoned Software Developer with strong experience in backend development, distributed systems, and networking protocols. Your role and responsibilities
As a Software Developer on IBM's Managed DNS team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining the backend systems that power our global DNS infrastructure. You will work on high-impact projects that require deep technical expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and a strong understanding of networking and distributed systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and Development: Architect and implement backend services and APIs using Go, some C/C++, and other relevant technologies. Ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability of DNS services.
- Infrastructure and Deployment: Work with Kubernetes and containerized environments to deploy and manage microservices. Contribute to infrastructure automation and CI/CD pipelines.
- Protocol Expertise: Apply deep knowledge of DNS and networking protocols to enhance system capabilities and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Data and Messaging Systems: Integrate and optimize databases and messaging systems such as Kafka to support high-throughput, low-latency operations.
- Observability and Reliability: Integrate with observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, and other monitoring solutions to ensure system health and performance.
- Innovation and Problem Solving: Break down complex technical challenges into solvable components. Propose and deliver innovative solutions that improve product quality and team productivity.
- Collaboration and Leadership: Mentor junior developers, share knowledge across teams, and contribute to open-source or inner-source initiatives. Drive team initiatives to successful completion and support cross-functional collaboration.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Understand stakeholder needs and deliver high-quality solutions that align with business objectives. Communicate effectively with internal and external audiences, including senior leadership.
- Quality and Standards: Uphold high standards for code quality, security, and maintainability. Participate in code reviews and define development best practices.
- Growth and Influence: Act as a role model for IBM Growth Behaviors, demonstrating resourcefulness, courage, and a team-focused mindset. Contribute to intellectual property generation and technical publications where applicable.

Required technical and professional expertise
- Backend Development Expertise: Proven experience designing and implementing scalable backend systems using Go (Golang) and optionally C/C++, with a strong emphasis on performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Cloud-Native Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and microservices architecture in production environments.
- Networking and DNS Protocols: Deep understanding of DNS, TCP/IP, and other networking protocols, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize networked systems.
- Distributed Systems: Experience working with Kafka or similar messaging systems, and designing systems for high availability and fault tolerance.
- Observability and Monitoring: Familiarity withPrometheus, Grafana, and other observability tools to monitor, alert, and improve system health and performance.
- Database Technologies: Proficiency in working with relational databases.
- Software Engineering Practices: Strong grasp of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, DevOps), CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and automated testing.
- Problem Solving and Innovation: Demonstrated ability to break down complex technical challenges, propose innovative solutions, and drive them to completion.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience working across teams and functions to deliver integrated solutions. Ability to mentor junior developers and contribute to team skill-building.
- Communication and Leadership: Capable of delivering effective technical presentations to senior leadership and external audiences. Comfortable engaging with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver business value.
