Your role and responsibilities

SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) Consultant - Mid-Level

Summary:
We are seeking a mid-level SAP MDG Consultant with hands-on experience in designing, configuring, and supporting SAP Master Data Governance solutions. The role requires a solid understanding of master data processes, data governance principles, and SAP S/4HANA integration. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality solutions that ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance across enterprise systems.

  • MDG Configuration & Customization:
    Configure and customize SAP MDG for key domains such as Business Partner (BP), Customer, Supplier, Material, or Financial objects based on project requirements. Support data models, UI modeling (FPM), BRF+, workflows, and validations.
  • Data Governance Implementation:
    Implement and optimize master data governance frameworks, including change request processes, approval workflows, and data validation rules to ensure high data quality and compliance.
  • Integration Support:
    Enable and support integration between SAP MDG and external systems (SAP and non-SAP) via ALE, IDoc, Web Services, or SAP Data Services. Work on central governance and consolidation scenarios.
  • Testing and Validation:
    Develop and execute functional test cases (unit testing, SIT, UAT) to validate MDG configurations and ensure that business requirements are met.
  • Data Quality & Stewardship:
    Collaborate with business data owners and stewards to define quality rules, KPIs, and processes for master data cleansing, enrichment, and maintenance.
  • Documentation:
    Create and maintain clear documentation for MDG configuration, workflows, data models, and user procedures to support knowledge transfer and auditing requirements.
  • Training and Support:
    Provide training to end users and data stewards on MDG usage, governance workflows, and issue resolution. Offer post-go-live support for MDG-related issues.
  • Process Improvement:
    Identify gaps and propose improvements in master data lifecycle processes. Suggest best practices for data governance based on industry standards.
  • Project Participation:
    Support end-to-end MDG implementation and rollout projects using agile or waterfall methodologies. Collaborate with project managers, developers, and business analysts.
  • Continuous Learning:
    Stay informed on the latest SAP MDG releases, capabilities (e.g., MDG on S/4HANA), and best practices in enterprise data management.

SAP Expertise
  • MDG Functional Knowledge:
    Solid understanding of SAP MDG concepts, including data models, change requests, BRF+ rules, FPM configurations, validations/derivations, and workflow management.
  • Domain Expertise:
    Experience working with at least one key domain: Business Partner (Customer/Vendor), Material Master, or Financial Objects. Ability to support central governance and consolidation scenarios.
  • Integration Know-How:
    Familiarity with integration tools and technologies including ALE/IDoc, Web Services (SOA), and MDG Data Replication Framework. Experience with SAP Data Services or MDG-Migration Cockpit is a plus.
Language Skills
  • English Proficiency:
    Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, necessary for documentation, stakeholder engagement, and end-user training in international environments.
Consulting Capabilities
  • Configuration and Customization:
    Able to configure MDG data models, UI configurations (FPM), BRF+ decision tables, and workflows. Experience customizing data replication and validations is expected.
  • Testing and Quality Assurance:
    Ability to create test scripts, execute functional tests, and support UAT. Familiarity with test tools such as SAP Solution Manager is an advantage.
  • Problem Solving:
    Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot functional and technical MDG issues, including replication errors, workflow inconsistencies, or data quality problems.
  • Client Interaction & Documentation:
    Comfortable working with clients and stakeholders to gather requirements, lead workshops, and prepare functional documentation and training materials.
Technical Knowledge (Desirable)
  • ABAP Awareness:
    Basic understanding of ABAP to collaborate effectively with developers for enhancements, user exits, or debugging.
  • Data Services & MDG APIs:
    Exposure to SAP Data Services for data loading/cleansing or MDG APIs for custom development is beneficial.
  • Cloud & S/4HANA Exposure:
    Knowledge of MDG on S/4HANA, SAP Master Data Integration (MDI), or SAP BTP services is an advantage.
Soft Skills
  • Adaptability:
    Willingness to work in dynamic project environments, learn new MDG features, and adjust to evolving client requirements.
  • Team Collaboration:
    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams including developers, architects, and business users.
  • Time Management:
    Capable of managing priorities and meeting project deadlines with minimal supervision.
