Monitoring & Health Checks

Database Availability: Monitor the database instances, server availability, and disk space to ensure continuous operation.

Resource Utilization: Track high CPU, memory, or application performance metrics and identify potential issues.

User & Access Management

User Creation/Modification: Handle user creation requests, grant basic data access, and manage user roles.

Request Processing: Respond to user requests, often by passing them to L2 or L3 support for complex resolution.

Backup & Recovery Support

Backup Monitoring: Oversee scheduled database backups and respond to any errors or failures during the process.

Error Notification: Notify the team about backup failures or recovery errors and process requests for restoration.

Alerts & Escalation

Alert Handling: Acknowledge and investigate alerts, notifying relevant teams for quick resolution.

Escalation: Escalate complex performance problems, storage issues, or critical failures to L2 or L3 DBAs for deeper analysis and action.

Environment Management

Storage Management: Assist with basic tasks like adding datafiles to tablespaces and monitoring storage growth.

Schema Refresh: Participate in daily schema refreshes to update development and testing environments.

Monitoring & Performance:

Monitor database health and performance using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control.

Analyze and resolve performance issues to ensure optimal system operation.

Monitor OS services for application and database availability.

Maintenance & Operations:

Perform regular backups and restores.

Apply database patches and updates to software and security.

Manage database storage and resolve space-related issues.

Assist with database installations, configurations, and upgrades.

Troubleshooting & Support:

Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues reported by users or detected by monitoring tools.

Provide technical support and assistance to end-users experiencing database problems.

Respond to database security alerts and apply necessary security measures.

Security & User Management:

Assist in implementing and maintaining database security policies and procedures.

Manage user accounts, authorizations, and access rights.

High Availability (HA) & Disaster Recovery (DR):

Implement and manage high-availability and disaster recovery solutions like Data Guard.

Perform failover and switchover procedures.

Collaboration & Documentation:

Collaborate with senior team members and other departments (e.g., application teams) to resolve issues and optimize performance.

Contribute to developing and maintaining documentation for database configurations and procedures.

Advanced Troubleshooting: Resolve issues that L1/L2 teams cannot, including complex ORA-600 errors and database corruption, often requiring deep analysis and root cause investigation.

Performance Tuning: Conduct in-depth performance analysis using tools like AWR and ASH to identify and resolve bottlenecks through SQL tuning, partitioning, and managing execution plans.

High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Design, implement, and maintain solutions such as RAC, ASM, and Data Guard for high availability and disaster recovery, including conducting DR drills.

Upgrades & Migrations: Lead and execute complex database upgrades, patching, and migrations, ensuring all prerequisites, testing, and post-upgrade tasks are completed effectively.

Backup & Recovery: Formulate, implement, and test advanced backup and recovery strategies, utilizing RMAN for reliable data protection.

Security & Compliance: Implement security policies, conduct auditing, and ensure databases comply with enterprise security standards.

Proactive Monitoring & Capacity Planning: Proactively identify potential issues and design strategies for capacity planning, ensuring future storage, memory, and CPU requirements are met.

Mentorship & Documentation: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs, and develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.

Collaboration: Work closely with development teams, application owners, and system administrators to optimize database usage and resolve issues collaboratively.
