IT Network Operations Specialist
Introduction
The IT Network Operations Specialist will be responsible for monitoring, supporting, and maintaining enterprise network operations to ensure optimal performance and availability. This role requires foundational knowledge of network technologies, hands-on experience with switching/routing or firewall systems, and the ability to perform basic monitoring and incident response. The ideal candidate will work closely with senior engineers to troubleshoot issues and maintain a secure and reliable network environment.
In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.
Your role and responsibilities
- Monitor network performance and availability using standard tools and dashboards.
- Perform basic monitoring and assist in incident response for network-related issues.
- Support configuration and maintenance of Switching/Routing OR Firewall devices.
- Troubleshoot connectivity problems and escalate complex issues as needed.
- Document network incidents, resolutions, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure compliance with security and operational standards.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance and network upgrade activities.
Required education
Bachelor's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
- 1-5 years of experience in network operations or support roles.
- Strong understanding of foundational networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, subnets).
- Hands-on experience with Switching/Routing OR Firewall technologies (Cisco, Palo Alto, etc.).
- CCNA certification (or actively pursuing).
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and basic troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to respond to incidents promptly and follow escalation procedures.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred technical and professional experience
- Exposure to network security principles and firewall policies.
- Experience with VPNs and remote access solutions.
- Familiarity with cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and hybrid environments.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and incident management frameworks.
- Interest in pursuing advanced certifications (CCNP, etc.).
