IBM Cloud Data Services Architect

Introduction

The IBM Cloud Data Services teams are responsible for developing and operating the Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings that provide Data Services in IBM Cloud.

We are seeking a Cloud Architect to drive strategic requirements for the Cloud Database services and play a key role in the success of this critical PaaS service offering from IBM Cloud.

As part of this role, you would build, design, code and consult. You would get an opportunity to work across key requirements from our clients, invent and collaborate.

Your role and responsibilities

As part of the role, the Cloud Architect will drive strategic requirements for the Cloud Database services.

You will be responsible for architecture, design and implementation of key requirements of the service across the Databases. Will be responsible for implementation of tools and automation, deployment of the services using the CI/CD tools, developing automated tests, implementing monitoring and runbooks, and handling complex customer escalations. The role also needs a deep understanding of the Cloud Platform, HA configurations, and general operations in a production environment. You would also be responsible to refine the overall engineering processes of development, release, support. Being able to work across database squads to resolve common issues better and driving efficiencies is also key.

The key requirement is to have a passion for Developing a High quality, Highly Available service.

There is a requirement to be expert in any one language(Python or Go) and cloud technologies such as Kubernetes. Candidate should have track record of delivering microservices based SW solutions using Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment tools such as Jenkins, GitHub, Gradle, Travis and Docker. In addition you would be responsible to groom and mentor the team.

We are a "You build it, You run it" culture. As an architect, you would also be responsible to handle and work with customer issues and escalations and follow-the-sun rotation as the primary responder for automated system alerts. You would also be responsible to work with the team to resolve key customer incidents.

Required technical and professional expertise

• Bachelor's in Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant experience

• Experience with design and architecture of cloud native applications

• 8+ years in programming with Python/Go

• 5+ years experience in Kubernetes and CICD environment

• 5+ years experience with developing and operating highly available, distributed applications in production environments on Kubernetes

• 3-5 years experience with managing service dependencies or other cloud services

• Experience of working with customers and handling customer situations

• Fluent English

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Python/Go Expert

• Advanced Experience with Kubernetes

• Experience with development on PostgreSQL, Kafka, Elastic, MySQL, Redis, or MongoDB

• In depth knowledge of at least one Cloud Provider IaaS ecosystem (VPC, Storage, IAM)
