R&D Senior Electrical Engineer

As a R&D Senior Electrical Engineer, you will drive innovation, define system architectures, and collaborate with external development partners to deliver high-quality, reliable, and secure solutions. Working across multidisciplinary teams, you will play a key role in integrating digital technologies, embedded systems, motor drives, and communication solutions into next-generation products. You will contribute to technology roadmaps, product strategy, and innovation initiatives while ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry standards. • Act as the internal subject matter expert for electronic systems, motor drive technologies, monitoring equipment, and control solutions used in On-Load Tap Changers (OLTCs) and Distribution Transformer (DT) products.
• Provide technical leadership for outsourced development projects related to motor drives, electronic control units, sensors, communication interfaces, monitoring systems, and embedded software.
• Define technical requirements, specifications, architectures, and acceptance criteria for external development partners.
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards, customer requirements, cybersecurity requirements, and Hitachi Energy development processes.
• Participate in concept studies, technology roadmaps, and strategic product development initiatives related to digitalization, monitoring, diagnostics, and intelligent control systems.
• Lead technical risk assessments, FMEA activities, design reviews, and validation programmer for new electronic products and technologies.
• Support verification and validation activities, including laboratory testing, field testing, certification, and troubleshooting.
• Monitor technology trends in power electronics, industrial drives, embedded systems, condition monitoring, communication protocols, and industrial automation.
• Mentor engineers and facilitate knowledge transfer to strengthen internal competence in electronics and control systems.
• Contribute to intellectual property development, technology strategy, and innovation initiatives.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Systems Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in the development, integration, or support of electronic systems, motor drives, control systems, monitoring equipment, or industrial automation solutions. Experience working with electronic hardware, embedded software, sensors, communication interfaces, and control technologies in industrial or power applications.
• Demonstrated experience managing or technically leading external suppliers, engineering partners, or outsourced development projects. Experience supporting new product development, technology development, or product enhancement projects.
• Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of electronic systems, embedded controllers, motor drive technologies, sensors, monitoring devices, and intelligent control systems. Understanding of electronic hardware development, embedded software development, system architecture, and product integration. Experience defining technical requirements, specifications, system architectures, and acceptance criteria. Knowledge of verification and validation processes, including laboratory testing, field testing, troubleshooting, and certification activities. Understanding of communication protocols, industrial automation technologies, and condition monitoring solutions. Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and requirements applicable to connected industrial products. Knowledge of product development methodologies, systems engineering principles, and lifecycle management processes.
• Product Development & Risk Management: Experience conducting technical risk assessments, FMEA activities, design reviews, and technical evaluations. Ability to assess and approve electronic hardware, embedded software, and system-level design solutions. Experience supporting product qualification, validation, and compliance activities. Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills for complex system issues. Ability to ensure compliance with technical standards, customer requirements, and quality processes.
• Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, quality, service, procurement, sales, and product management functions. Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence technical decisions and align stakeholders.
• Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Interest in emerging technologies related to power electronics, motor drives, embedded systems, industrial communication, diagnostics, monitoring, and digitalization. Experience contributing to technology roadmaps, innovation initiatives, or strategic product development activities. Ability to identify opportunities for product improvements, performance enhancements, and technology adoption. Experience contributing to intellectual property development, patents, or technical innovation initiatives is an advantage.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience with On-Load Tap Changers (OLTCs), Distribution Transformers (DTs), transformer accessories, or power transmission and distribution equipment. Knowledge of condition monitoring, diagnostics, remote communication, and smart grid technologies. Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, IEC 61850, CAN, Ethernet/IP, or similar technologies. Experience with power electronics, variable speed drives, motor control systems, and industrial control architectures. Previous experience in the power, energy, industrial automation, or electrical equipment industries.
