Project Engineer

2 days ago• Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom

As part of our continued growth, Hitachi Energy is looking to appoint a Project Engineer to join our Service business, supporting projects across High Voltage (HV), Switchgear and Transformer technologies.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering complex engineering solutions for critical power infrastructure projects. Acting as the technical lead throughout the project lifecycle, you will coordinate engineering design activities, engage with customers and suppliers, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining technical expertise with project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and problem solving.

You will work on a diverse portfolio of projects that support the energy transition while collaborating with industry leading experts across Hitachi Energy's global network.

The role requires occasional travel to customer sites throughout the UK and Europe, including visits to our manufacturing and engineering facilities for project workshops and design reviews.

Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position (including post study visas).

How you'll make an impact:

  • Lead the technical and engineering aspects of projects from initial concept through to completion and customer handover.
  • Deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet customer requirements, industry standards, and Hitachi Energy expectations.
  • Drive customer satisfaction by providing proactive technical leadership and ensuring successful project execution.
  • Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and project meetings with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance across the wider business, including the review of RAMS, test plans, installation methodologies, and tender documentation.
  • Conduct site surveys and technical assessments to support project delivery and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Interpret customer specifications and translate requirements into effective engineering solutions.
  • Identify and manage technical risks throughout the project lifecycle while supporting successful project outcomes.

Background:

  • HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience delivering engineering projects within power systems, utilities, transmission, distribution, or a related industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of primary plant engineering, HV equipment, switchgear, transformers, or associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience coordinating engineering activities across multiple stakeholders and managing technical interfaces.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD.
  • Financial awareness with the ability to support project budgeting, cost control, and commercial decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
