​​Marie-Curie (MSCA) PhD Position: Optimal combination of insulation and thermal management for magnetic components (Magnify DC14)​

The Opportunity

We are offering a fully funded 3-year PhD position as part of the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) under the MAGNIFY EU project (Grant Agreement No. 101226760).

This role focuses on cutting-edge research into insulation methods and materials for high-power solid-state transformers (SSTs), aiming to optimize power density while ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards.

This position is hosted at our Krakow office (Poland) within a global R&D organization.

You will be part of a dynamic, international research environment, with secondments to leading institutions across Europe. Apart from Krakow office assignment the rotations will include:

• HIT (Switzerland) - Prior-art review and development of insulation rules (Months 9-10)

• KUL (Belgium) - Innovative insulation methods for high-power transformers (Months 18-20)

• ULB (Belgium) - Empirical studies on thermal management in magnetic components (Months 29-31)

• Investigate traditional and advanced insulation techniques (e.g., dry/air insulation, resin impregnation) for high-voltage, high-frequency SST environments.

• Analyze thermal performance and heat dissipation to ensure long-term reliability and efficiency.

• Collaborate with international experts and contribute to the development of next-generation power electronics.

• Participate in specialized doctoral training and international conferences.

• Work in state-of-the-art laboratories and contribute to groundbreaking interdisciplinary research.

Your Background

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic, and communicative researchers who:

• Hold a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Science, or a related field (top 5% academic performance).

• Have knowledge of power electronics and thermal management (preferred).

• Are skilled in modelling, simulation, and programming (e.g., MATLAB, Ansys).

• Have experience with laboratory equipment, prototyping, and testing (a plus).

• Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, self-motivation, and continuous learning.

• Are eager to work in a collaborative international environment.

• English proficiency (spoken and written).
