Global Manager R&D Design Organization - Control & Protection

The Opportunity

We are looking for the future leader of the global R&D organization Control and Protection within the MACH platform development.

The Control & Protection (C&P) organization is responsible for the core of the MACH platform. The core is a high performing computer platform with functionality divided between central and distributed systems combined with extensive input/output signal handling. The organization consist of approx. 160 employees with operation in Sweden, Poland and India. You will be responsible for the complete R&D organization and operation of the MACH Control & Protection platform, reporting to the head of GI MACH. The responsibility includes full product lifecycle management, quality/reliability and technology development/evolution. You are an experienced technology-oriented R&D manager combined with a high drive and a true commitment to make a difference. You have solid knowledge of software and hardware development, preferably both from project execution and a line manager role.

You will play a key role in further transforming and developing the C&P R&D organization, particularly in enhancing ways of working, efficiency, and quality. To operate with the required speed, you bring prior experience in transformational industries and related change management processes. As a leader, you are inspiring and driven, with a strong track record and a genuine interest in people. You demonstrate a highly results-oriented mindset combined with the experience needed to lead effectively.

How you will make an impact

  • Be a strong transformation leader, driving the R&D organization forward in a very strong and dynamic market
  • Define and implement the strategic vision for the Control & Protection design organization, aligning it with Hitachi's overall business objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing transformative team of engineers and designers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the end-to-end design process for control and protection systems, from conceptualization and requirements gathering to detailed design, testing, and implementation support.
  • Establish and enforce robust design methodologies, standards, and best practices to ensure product quality, reliability, and safety.
  • Drive research and development initiatives to incorporate cutting-edge technologies and advancements in control and protection systems.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, manufacturing, sales, and service teams to ensure seamless product development and market success.
  • Manage project portfolios, including resource allocation, budget control, and timeline adherence for all design projects.
  • Act as a technical expert and thought leader, providing guidance and support to internal and external stakeholders.

Your background

  • Solid and proven experience from leading transformational industries and to lead and drive change management processes. You like to be in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years proven managerial experience in a Global R&D SW & HW operation. Successfully leading technical teams of significant size and complexity
  • Track record of driving innovation and fostering a high-performance culture.
