Global Engineering Manager HVDC Control & Protection

The Opportunity

As the Global Engineering Manager - HVDC Control & Protection you will lead the global engineering operations for Control & Protection (C&P) systems within Hitachi Energy's HVDC business. In this role, you are responsible for driving technical excellence, defining system architecture strategy, managing global engineering teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of advanced control hardware and software solutions across international HVDC projects.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Global Leadership & Strategy: Manage and mentor a global team of electronics, hardware, and software engineers specializing in HVDC Control & Protection (MACH™ platform, 3rd party C&P equipment and equivalent system architectures).
  • Technical Governance: Oversee design, testing, commissioning, and lifecycle management of control and protection hardware/software solutions for large-scale grid interconnections and offshore wind integration.
  • Project Delivery: Align engineering deliverables with global project execution teams to guarantee quality, safety, budget adherence, and on-time delivery, from tender stage, during execution to customer delivery and handover to Service.
  • Innovation & Standardization: Drive continuous improvement, standardizing engineering tools, design practices, and testing methodologies across global engineering hubs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with R&D, Product Management, Quality, Supply Chain, and Testing Facilities (e.g., Factory System Test, Simulation and Verification Labs) to translate customer requirements into reliable product architectures.
  • Risk & Compliance Management: Ensure compliance with international electrical codes, cyber security standards, functional safety guidelines, and grid codes globally.

Your background

  • Education: Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Control Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience: 15+ years of professional experience in electronics/control engineering, with 10+ years in a functional or line management role within HVDC, or large-scale power systems.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of HVDC control systems, digital protection algorithms, power electronics interfaces, Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) testing, and control platform architectures.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven track record in managing cross-border engineering teams, promoting diversity, and managing stakeholder expectations across global time zones.
  • Communication: Business-fluent English skills (written and spoken) are required for global cross-functional leadership.
