Field Service Engineer - Site Lead
Hitachi Energy has an exciting opportunity to join our Transformers business as a Site Lead / Site Manager. You'll contribute to the execution of the service strategy and service growth by leading site-based Field Service Engineers, coordinating service activities, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of customer projects across the UK.
Working as the operational lead on customer sites, you'll be responsible for supervising field service teams, coordinating site activities, ensuring compliance with project requirements, and maintaining strong customer relationships. You will play a key role in delivering transformer installation, commissioning, maintenance, refurbishment, and service projects whilst upholding the highest standards of health and safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced field service leader to develop their management capability whilst supporting critical energy infrastructure projects throughout the UK.
Please note: This is a highly mobile, field-based role that requires extensive travel throughout the UK. Successful candidates should expect frequent overnight stays away from home, extended periods working on customer sites, and occasional weekend working as part of normal project delivery requirements.
How You'll Make an Impact:
- You'll lead and coordinate teams of Field Service Engineers and subcontractors on customer sites, ensuring all activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
- Take responsibility for day-to-day site management activities, ensuring work is delivered in line with project schedules, quality standards, contractual obligations, and customer expectations.
- Act as the primary on-site point of contact for customers, developing strong working relationships and providing regular progress updates throughout project execution.
- Support the installation, commissioning, maintenance, refurbishment, and repair of large power transformers and associated equipment across a variety of customer locations.
- Ensure compliance with all Hitachi Energy health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements, proactively identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions where required.
- Coordinate site logistics, resource allocation, documentation, permits, access requirements, and subcontractor activities to ensure successful project delivery.
- Lead daily briefings, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and site safety discussions to maintain a strong safety culture across all site activities.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and issues, and escalate concerns appropriately to Project Managers and Service Management teams.
- Drive a culture of operational excellence by identifying opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
- Act as an ambassador for Hitachi Energy whilst identifying potential service opportunities and customer requirements that support long-term business growth.

Your Background:
- Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related Engineering qualification such as Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, Military Engineering training, or equivalent industry experience.
- Proven experience leading site teams, supervising field service activities, or managing engineering projects within industrial, power, utilities, manufacturing, or heavy engineering environments.
- Experience in the installation, commissioning, maintenance, refurbishment, or repair of large industrial, mechanical, electrical, or electro-mechanical equipment.
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, safe systems of work, and risk management within a field service environment.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, technical documentation, engineering procedures, and project specifications.
- Experience coordinating contractors, subcontractors, and multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong customer-facing experience with the ability to build trusted relationships and effectively manage stakeholder expectations.
- Site safety qualifications such as SMSTS, SSSTS, IOSH Managing Safely, CSCS, CCNSG, or equivalent would be beneficial.
- Full UK driving license.

- Comfortable spending a significant proportion of the year working away from home on customer sites across the UK.
- Highly organised with excellent planning, coordination, and prioritisation skills.
- A systematic approach to problem-solving with the confidence to make sound operational decisions in challenging site environments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with customers, engineers, subcontractors, and management teams.
- Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in dynamic project environments.
