Electrical Plant Design Manager, HVDC

The opportunity

The Electrical Plant Design team is part of Engineering within HVDC, carrying the electrical design responsibility for greenfield HVDC projects on a global scale. The organization consists of approximately 130 employees across six countries.

The team is responsible for engineering the Auxiliary Power System and station cabling for HVDC converter stations. From drawings and detailed design to installation support and final documentation, we bring electrical systems to life - driving the green energy transition in close collaboration with Plant Civil Engineering, Plant Mechanical Engineering, and Project Management.

We are now looking for a Local Manager to lead one of our Electrical Plant Design engineering team in Sweden. In this role, you will provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring that engineering delivery meets business and contractual requirements in terms of scope, quality, cost, and on-time execution. You will lead a local team of approximately 10-15 engineers and play a key role in strengthening engineering capability, performance, and long-term sustainability.

How you'll make an impact

  • Lead, manage, and develop an engineering team responsible for Auxiliary Power System Design
  • Provide strategic direction and clear priorities to drive engineering performance across all project phases
  • Ensure deliveries meet contractual requirements related to scope, quality, cost, and schedule
  • Plan and secure adequate engineering capacity, including contributing to resource planning and identifying scope for outsourcing from an engineering perspective
  • Support the business in building operational capacity through effective people leadership, competence development, and structured ways of working
  • Ensure processes are in place to capture, share, and implement best practices and operational experience
  • Continuously develop, implement, and improve processes, policies, and procedures to increase efficiency and quality
  • Collaborate closely with global stakeholders and cross-functional interfaces
  • Act as a role model by living Hitachi Energy's Leadership Pillars and core values of safety and integrity, taking responsibility for your actions while caring for people and the business

Your background

  • Master's degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Experience from power stations, HVDC, FACTS, or substations is highly meritorious
  • Proven experience in line management, including goal setting, performance follow-up, and people development
  • Strong interest in both people, leadership and technology
  • Ability to set direction, manage priorities, and make sound decisions in a structured engineering environment
  • Experience working in an international and multicultural context
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • A collaborative mindset - you are a genuine team player who enjoys working with peers, partners, and stakeholders
