What's the role?
Within Our Spatial Data and Engineering Team we look to transform spatial data into anaytical trends and process to update our maps. You will:
- Support the end‑to‑end delivery of GIS data engineering and ingestion projects, assisting with design, implementation, and validation under team guidance.
- Help transform, integrate, and create geospatial data products using tools such as FME, ArcGIS, QGIS, Python, SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
- Assist in identifying and addressing risks and data quality issues related to large‑scale and bulk data ingestion and conversion.
- Contribute to GIS and spatial data analysis, supporting bulk source integration and map update initiatives.
- Develop an engineering and analytical mindset, focusing on understanding problems deeply and delivering the right outcomes rather than just executing initial requests.
- Proactively flag and help resolve issues related to data conversion, bulk updates, and the map database, while collaborating with the team in a respectful, curious, and integrity‑driven way.

Who are you?
Currently enrolled university student pursuing a BA, BS, MA, or MS in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence (Model or Systems Design), or a closely related field.
- Foundational to strong data analytics skills, with hands‑on experience in ArcGIS, QGIS, and/or FME, Python, SQL, and PostgreSQL; exposure to machine learning concepts is a plus but not required.
- Interest in and exposure to modern GIS technologies, including cloud platforms, web services, and large geospatial datasets.
- Some experience transforming, managing, or querying data in relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle, through coursework, projects, or internships.
- Familiarity with AWS, APIs, GitLab, and Agile workflows (e.g., Kanban, JIRA, Confluence) is desirable.
- Ability to work independently on defined tasks, with regular guidance and mentoring from the team.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Fluency in English required; proficiency in an additional language is an advantage.
This is a full-time paid internship (20 to 40 hours per week) with a fixed hourly rate of depending on your level of education as follows:
Undergraduate Students: $25/hr
Graduate Students: $30/hr
PhD Students: $35/hr
