Hatch

Staff Frontend Engineer

Remote
Our mission is to help small businesses start and grow. We are building financial products that empower business owners and enable them to focus on their products and on growing their businesses. At Hatch we care about creating solutions which provide accessible, transparent, and fair access to financial products. Our team is spread across the US and Canada, with a physical  office in San Francisco and more opening around the country soon. Our company is growing and we’d love for you to grow with us!

Opportunity
As a Frontend engineer, you'll use your expertise to build financial software services for a new generation of small businesses. You'll build customer-facing features and products, optimize web pages to improve load times, build reusable web components for other engineers, integrate third-party vendors, and own the overall customer experience for tens of thousands of small businesses. You'll work with designers, product managers, back-end engineers, and other partners to bring beautiful products to life - while championing best practices for writing well-tested, easy-to-use, scalable, and durable code. You will pave the path for future engineers by setting engineering culture, processes, and guidelines for making sound technology decisions.

The Team
This team supports all of Hatch's products. We care deeply about our consumers and do whatever it takes to create the best experience possible. We build easy-to-use products that make users feel at ease - even when things go wrong. We take pride in writing scalable code, so that present and future users can move and iterate quickly.

You may be fit for this role if you

  • have experience working with user-facing web products
  • have experience with frontend technologies (e.g. React, Redux, Angular, etc.)
  • can work and thrive in a small group: strong communication, collaboration, and empathy
  • have experience with TypeScript
  • 7+ years of industry experience

You're not expected to have expertise in all of the above areas, but you should be interested in learning and growing your knowledge in the areas that are less familiar to you.

What you can expect
In your first month as a frontend engineer, you'll become familiar with our tech stack, processes, the codebase, and release pipeline. You'll begin by building and deploying incremental features across different products.

In the following months, you may come to own a product (or products), revamp our release pipelines, and make architecture design decisions that affect how we build, release and host our products. We can't wait to see all that you will do!
