Proprietary Sales Assistant - Special Markets
Hachette Book Group is seeking a Sales Assistant to join our Special Markets team in our New York City office. This full-time hybrid role (a minimum of three days per week in-office) supports the dynamic, fast-paced Proprietary Sales channel which develops and sells exclusive and customized editions to retailers, early literacy initiatives, common read programs, promotional partnerships, and more.
Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, extremely organized, self-motivated, and passionate about mining our full list, including deep backlist, to help our accounts introduce their readers to new worlds of ideas, learning, entertainment, and opportunity.
Our Sales Assistant works closely with the editorial, design, and production teams, so this is the perfect opportunity for a book lover who is interested in both the business side of publishing and the book-making process.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support day-to-day communication with customers, from the pitch phase to delivery, communicating real time status updates.
- Maintain production schedule of customer-specific print-runs, tracking changes, delays, and billing status.
- Oversee data entry in customer portals.
- Run weekly sales reports and track future shipments/billings to anticipate full-year results.
- Coordinate samples, design mockups, and other materials, as well as help with PowerPoint decks for sales presentations.
- Conduct industry research to build lead lists and help identify new growth opportunities.
- Run title sales reports and P&Ls to determine viability of these new opportunities.
- Generate meeting agendas and circulate follow-up notes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1 year of office experience.
- Collaborative team player with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills-this role requires extensive customer interaction and cross-department collaboration.
- Excellent time-management and organizational abilities, with the capacity to juggle shifting priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines with consistent follow-through.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel (VLOOKUP and pivot tables), PowerPoint, and Word.
- Familiarity with InDesign or Canva is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills.

The compensation for this position is $52,500. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location - talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
