Editorial Assistant, Little, Brown & Co

Little, Brown is seeking an Editorial Assistant to support an Executive Editor and a Senior Editor. This is an entry-level role in our editorial department, but one with opportunities for learning and growth. The editors publish titles that lead societal conversations with big ideas, expert-led, and narrative nonfiction and platform-driven memoirs as well as critically acclaimed literary fiction and book club fiction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact professionally with authors and their literary agents, as well as internal departments within Little, Brown and Hachette, including design, publicity, marketing, production, sales.
  • Perform administrative duties, including: scheduling, directing/responding to inquiries, research projects, blurb outreach, mailings, metadata updates, etc.
  • Draft and circulate contract forms, process check requests, and compose deal memos.
  • Draft descriptive copy for titles in the form of fact sheets, galley copy, jacket copy, and other editorial materials
  • Track book production process, route materials, and manage deadlines
  • Attend and take notes at editorial meetings, and attend art, acquisition, marketing, and sales meetings as required.
  • Review book proposals and submissions from literary agents and writers and write analysis and be prepared for potential further discussion.
  • Research book sales using internal and external databases.
  • Participate in brainstorming meetings and share ideas for books.

  • Be self-directed, able to work independently, and take initiative.
  • Demonstrate imagination, creativity, and original thinking.
  • Be comfortable using email, calendar management, and file management tools.
  • Be familiar with Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel or other like tools.

The compensation for this position is $50,000. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
