LOCATION: Onsite in Scarborough on average 4 to 5 days per week

COMP RANGE: CAD $60,000 to $75,000 annually

Griffith Foods is hiring a Health and Safety Specialist to report to the Health and Safety Manager to drive health and safety initiatives to prevent injuries in the workplace through development of training, implementation of policies and programs and coaching front line leaders. This role will participate and occasionally be the Health and Safety lead in Operations projects and will act on behalf of Health and Safety Manager where applicable.

As a Health and Safety Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Work with JHSC and Ergonomics committees to inspire proactive change and innovative solutions to existing site challenges.
  • Participate in the maintaining records and tracking of training initiatives to educate at all levels of the organization including physical training tracker, monthly Safety Talks, Safety Training in Workday LMS, etc.
  • Coordinate, administer and support the delivery of both internal and external Training related to Health and Safety, including scheduling, record-keeping, and liaison with training providers.
  • Proactively support office and plant employees in preventing occupational injury and illness by assisting in implementing the health and safety management system.
  • Provide Health and Safety insight during project assessments, equipment modifications.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and initiatives such as GEMBA Walks, Kaizen etc.
  • Using data, support the creation of corrective action plans, site goals and initiatives by taking ownership of Health and Safety incident management software.
  • Provide purchasing support for department by preparing purchase requests, monitoring orders, and supporting cost-effective procurement practices.
  • Coach employees, front line leaders and management on effective and practical ways to bring legislative requirements into everyday business practice. Lead visual workplace to enhance safety.
  • Lead the collection, tabulation, investigation and maintenance of incident and near miss data in local spreadsheets and corporate website & supports root cause analysis.
  • Liaise with HR to support injury case management including classification of recordable injuries personal medical cases.
  • Performs other duties assigned by manager and/or initiatives directed by Corporate H&S such as standalone internal audits etc. and the Health and Safety Manager.

The Health and Safety Specialist position is well-suited for you if you:

  • Have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting; preferably in the food or pharma industry.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Health and Safety or related discipline.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office tools including Excel, Teams and PowerPoint.
  • Skilled in communicating, motivating change and having difficult conversations to build safety first culture.
  • Must be flexible to work different hours to be available into evening and occasionally on weekends.
  • A passion for supporting Operations on the floor in multiple environments - some exposure to dust and heat.
  • Willingness to work onsite in Scarborough 4 to 5 days per week.

What will set you apart:

  • Working towards or possessing a Health and Safety professional designation is considered as an asset.
  • Experience with Health and Safety software-based solution and Workday Learning is considered an asset.

There is potential for a discretionary bonus, with a target of 2%. This bonus is based on personal & company performance and is not a guaranteed bonus plan.
