Thermal Performance Engineer
Job Description Summary
The Performance Engineer will be part of the Performance Testing & Diagnostics team within the wider Gas Power Performance Engineering organization. The Performance Testing & Diagnostics team is responsible for developing thermal performance testing strategies of gas, steam or combined cycle power plants, day-to-day technical supervision of testing activities, technical fulfillment and performance risk management of new unit and aftermarket contractual tests and quality control of technical deliverables associated with thermal performance programs and projects.
Job Description
Role Summary/Purpose
A global testing & diagnostics performance engineer will be executing highly technical services across different power plant equipment. The successful execution of these global services will require that the engineer adheres to internal processes while being open to challenges that may arise. Engineers are accountable for the quality our customers (internal and external) feel when purchasing our services. Areas of customer quality include accurate/timely documentation, appropriate/timely installation of instrumentation, accurate collection of field data, various site activities, and communications. The global testing & diagnostics performance engineer will be expected to manage time and workload to a significant degree, both in the office and at site, while supporting requests and projects that may be at different stages of execution. The role entails technical, business and commercial responsibilities, as well as administrative and management tasks.
Responsibilities
- Compliance with company policies and adherence to testing group operating guidelines and practices
- Engagement on company quality initiatives and programs
- Identify and raise potential safety events (PSE)
- Identify and raise quality and non-conformance issues, while striving to be part of the solution
- Building a sound understanding of Performance Testing & Diagnostics capabilities, roles, responsibilities and limitations
- Learn the business vision and organization structure
- Review commercial guarantees, contractual requirements, and develop performance test procedures
- Prepare, plan, and execute thermal performance tests on plant equipment
- Analyze data, calculate test results, diagnose and evaluate testing issues
- Pursue implementation of corrective actions as needed
- Prepare test reports for internal and external distribution
- Develop job performance risk assessments throughout the project life and follow up on associated mitigating activities
- Communicate and coordinate with internal/external stakeholders on testing activities, schedules, and technical issues
- Keep testing project admin and documentation platform up-to-date and accurate, based on best judgement
- Provide daily status updates when travelling
- Provide support on technical issue resolution for cases related to equipment covered
- The position requires typically 50% travel () in 1 to 8 week intervals, to destinations around the world, whenever supported by GE Global Travel Security
- Learn to identify areas of opportunity for defending GE's commercial interests and mitigating performance risk

Qualifications and Requirements
- A four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, thermodynamic cycles and applied fluid mechanics
- Ability to travel extensively in support of global assignments
- Fluent in English language

- Advanced degree in Engineering
- Prior testing experience following industry standards
- Familiar with measurement systems and data interpretation
- Familiar with thermodynamic modelling and analysis applications
- Knowledge of thermal performance and operation of power plants and power plant equipment
- Strong computer skills - extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, programming skills
- Strong technical aptitude and analytical skills, with great attention to detail
- Significant flexibility dealing with travels and managing time
- Self-starter, driving continuous self-improvement and development
- Works well independently and in a team
- Displays good interpersonal skills - is accessible and approachable
- Communicates clearly, concisely and in a professional manner
