Job Description Summary

Lead and mentor matrixed team with a focus on fabrication and installation work planning, ASME code, technical approach, design assurance, and Lead and mentor matrixed team for GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH), with a focus on fabrication and installation work planning, ASME code, technical approach, design assurance, and execution excellence on BWRX-300 project. Scope includes proposal, requirements management, design, optioneering, fabrication support, installation through commissioning as well as stewardship of guides, tools, skills development, knowledge capture, lessons learned, best practices, issue resolution, and supplier or partner technical oversight.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead integrated approaches and solutions across the diverse plant disciplines or specialties of; Mechanical component design, equipment design, licensing support, procurement, testing, and providing direction for installation and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate across matrixed Engineering teams to review, disposition, and provide vendor direction related drawing, specification, non-conformance, procedure, etc.
  • Lead preparation of work planning, scheduling, and resource loading across Procurement, Fabrication, and Construction of components.
  • Support project engineering or manager with; understanding execution metric and status, issues, risks, mitigation or recovery plans as well as being proactive to identify changes in scope - if customer driven, the support preparation of project change order (PCR)
  • Drive compliance with; scope, work plan, budget, and overall schedule as well as the applicable procurement package definitions, non-conformance processes, supplier oversight practices, and tools including design and technical reviews.
  • Lead "day-to-day" operations and follow-up to ensure deliverables are produced and commitments met on-spec., on-budget, and on-schedule.
  • Identify, confirm, document, and lead resolution of technical risk or other emergent issues.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to ensure system designs and deliverables comply with all requirements throughout design release, procurement/fabrication, assembly, and site installation and testing.
  • Assist with hosting learning sessions as well as knowledge capture and transfer initiatives.
  • Champion conformance with regulations and guides, standard review plans, branch technical positions, interim staff guidance, information notices and summaries, bulletins, orders, etc. as well as applicable nuclear guidance and industry standards.
  • Support Simplification and continuous process improvements.
  • Champion nuclear safety culture - Ensure compliance with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) policies, quality management system, and corrective action program.
  • Delivers work with integrity, safety and security, quality, and then on-time output.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics or equivalent 4-year technical degree from an accredited college or university
  • 7 years of experience in heavy industrial, thermal power, or nuclear industry working in mechanical equipment and component design, including specification of design requirements, design development, procurement, test, and fabrication/installation support.
  • 4 years of experience with ASME Section III codes & standards or equivalent .

Eligibility Requirements:

  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% to domestic and international plant sites.

Work Locations:

For the US - the required work location for this role is at the GVH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC

For Canada - the required work location is at the Markham Ontario office 3 days a week.

Desired Characteristics:

  • 5 years of experience with BWR plant product family [e.g.; BWR-4, -5, -6, ABWR, ESBWR] system design, plant engineering maintenance and modifications, new plant design certification and licensing
  • 5 years of experience performing independent, or preferably team based, equipment/component design or technical reviews including product requirements management, technical risk tracking/retirement, technical reviews, procurement and fabrication support
  • 5 years of experience with applicable industry standards [e.g.; ASME, AWS, BWRVIP reports]
  • Master of Science Degree in Engineering Discipline
  • Experience with weldment design, structural analysis (including FEM) and fabrication
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write organized engineering documents
  • Strong interpersonal and proven leadership skills
  • Professional Engineers License
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD design
  • Proficiency with ANSYS FEA analysis
  • Experience working in or with an architect engineering (A/E) firm.
  • Knowledgeable, skilled and experienced regulatory affairs and licensing processes [e.g.; NRC]
  • Competency in US nuclear laws, rules, regulations, guidance, positions, memorandum, notices, bulletins, items, etc. from NRC, DOE, or international equivalent
  • Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, balanced, results oriented analyst and leader - Able to make reasoned, sound, and timely decisions that are phased, reasonable, and deliverables oriented
  • Able and willing to take ownership and responsibility for scoping, planning, scheduling, budgeting, action tracking, prioritization, monitoring, corrective actions, and results
  • Self-starter with energy, positive "Can-Do" attitude and inclusive style - Proven track record of delivering on commitments, producing quality deliverables on specification, on budget, and on schedule in a fast passed and matrixed environment executing multiple assignments and priorities
  • Strong verbal communication as well as facilitation and presentation skills for technical and business audiences - Able to communicate openly, calmly, and crisply in stressful situations with diverse community of; engineers and technicians, business leaders and project managers, auditors, regulators, and customers.
  • Adaptive, able to quickly learn diverse and varying organizational interfaces with professional astuteness and agility [e.g.; cross-functional, across business within same company, across different companies including customer, partners, and suppliers, regulator, third party auditors]
  • Continuous improvement "mindset" with an ability to identify, influence, and implement better ways to do an activity or process
  • Working knowledge, expertise, and experience using; LEAN or Agile, define, measure, analyze, improve, and control (DMAIC), design for six sigma (DFSS), design for reliability (DFR), failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), design to cost (DTC), and new product introduction (NPI) techniques and tools

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,200.00 and $188,800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
