Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
As the Radiation Protection Team Leader you will:
- Select, develop, and provide ongoing leadership and direction of Radiation Protection Technicians.
- Prepare and conduct training for Radiation Protection Technicians, leaders and workers in the Fuel Manufacturing Operation (FMO) facility.
- Ensure team members are provided adequate training, resources and support to assure safe and compliant manufacturing practices in a nuclear regulated environment
- Be responsible for meeting the shift's strict compliance and EHS requirements, and supporting manufacturing schedule requirements
- Assure team planning - provide direction to support needs of production area, including work assignments, scheduling of overtime, and training
- Perform program audits and assessments. Assess the effectiveness of the radiation safety program, promote continuous program improvement. Focus team on constantly seeking opportunity for improvement.
- Support, encourage and facilitate Human Performance and Lean principles
- Provide leadership, advice and counsel to area managers on radiation protection safety measures, including review and approval of operating procedures.
- Communicate business goals, programs, and processes to radiation protection team
- Promote team engagement and ownership
- Develop and support the growth of all team employees
- Perform health physics calculations for shielding design, ALARA analysis, internal & external dosimetry, and maintain radiation protection instrumentation.
- Review and implement US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and State of North Carolina Radioactive Materials License requirements. Ensure compliance with requirements.
- Support emergency response planning and events. Maintain qualifications in the Wilmington Site's Emergency Response Organization as Nuclear Safety Advisor - Radiological.
- Promote and help drive a healthy, mature nuclear safety culture.
- Prepare reports for management on radiation protection or health physics related issues.
- Support Radiation Safety Engineering initiatives and audits
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering with 2 years of experience in an applied radiation protection role at a nuclear facility; OR High School diploma with 5 years of experience in an applied radiation protection role at a nuclear facility
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience
- Must maintain after hours cell phone availability
Desired Characteristics
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills
- At least two years of supervisory experience of Radiation Protection technicians
- Advanced degree in nuclear engineering or physics.
- Active National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists certification, including NRRPT leadership positions.
- Experience in facilities that utilize 10 CFR 20 and/or 10 CFR 835 regulations.
- Experienced track record in performing complex health physics analyses and calculations.
- American Board of Health Physics (CHP) Certification. If candidate does not possess American Board of Health Physics (CHP) Certification, candidate must be willing to obtain certification within 5 years of start of employment
- Ability to develop creative solutions for complex, challenging issues.
- Ability to explain complex issues to a non-technical audience
- Positive track record of experience resolving technical issues
- Demonstrated proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to develop team relationships
- Strong written communication skills
- Proven ability to influence regulators, other leaders, and engineers
- Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing fundamentals

Eligibility Requirements:
- This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment
- Must be 18 years or older and have legal authorization to work in the United States.
- This position is 100% onsite at the GE Vernova Wilmington, NC location
- Must be able to gain authorized access to nuclear technology
- Must follow strict radiation protection, criticality, and industrial safety regulations; wear protective clothing to enter the Controlled Access area.
- Ability and willingness to wear tight-fitting negative pressure respirator (half-face or full-face mask) and maintain mask fit
- Ability to walk up and down stairs multiple times per day
- Must complete internal training and qualification training program.
- Ability and willingness to maintain Emergency Response Organization (ERO) qualifications
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 operation as needed per business needs
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $85,500.00 and $142,600.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
