We're looking for a Static Commissioning Engineer to join our team in Stafford. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on technical work, solving complex challenges, and contributing to critical power infrastructure projects with real-world impact. Due to the nature of the role, you should be comfortable with extensive travel and spending time on sites in the UK and internationally.

Job Description

As a Static Commissioning Engineer, you'll support the preparation and execution of static (pre-commissioning) commissioning activities for HVDC control systems. You'll play a key role in site installation, testing, troubleshooting, and handover, working closely with customers and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and carry out static (pre-commissioning) commissioning activities
  • Plan and coordinate site installation and testing work
  • Control system installation, cable laying, and termination
  • Configure, test, and troubleshoot IEC 61850 IEDs, HMI, TFR, and related systems
  • Cubicle, inter-cubicle, field interface, and analogue injection testing
  • Support interlock testing and wider system troubleshooting
  • Maintain accurate reports, as-built markups, and equipment records
  • Work closely with customers and project teams to resolve site issues
  • Follow EHS, customer safety, and commissioning standards at all times
  • Support system handover to dynamic commissioning and provide after-sales or RTDS lab support where needed


What We're Looking For
  • Degree or equivalent experience in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in commissioning, testing, or site installation of control systems
  • Knowledge of HVDC, substation automation, or power system control applications
  • Hands-on experience with IEC 61850 configuration, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with HMI, TFR, interlocks, and field interface testing
  • Understanding of CT/PT/CVT testing and analogue injection testing
  • Knowledge of industrial networking and system troubleshooting
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
  • A strong commitment to safe working practices
  • Comfortable with extensive travel and longer periods working on site, both in the UK and internationally.
