Job Description Summary

This position covers the Project Director position in complex multi discipline project and to lead and provide directions to the project management team on execution of substation projects. Responsible for project delivery, profit & loss accountability, and customer satisfaction through management of project related activities and resources.

Role involves resource planning, Budget forecasting, Revenue, billing and cash forecasting for the unit based on the project's execution plans. In this role the candidate should have clear understanding of the company objective on Customer Focus, EHS and compliance requirements.

The person should have demonstrated leadership skills and is willing to work in a highly demanding environment. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. The role also requires the coordination with various discipline in Japan and also with the stake holders on various countries such as coordination with Lead centers in Europe and Asia and also with back office support from work from India and East Asia.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage the team of Project managers/Project engineers on execution of projects in Japan.
  • Responsible for overseeing the projects and direct or indirect leadership and/or management of project resources for small-medium sized projects (size in relation to GE company) that may include equipment-only, suites of products or turnkey projects.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • A job at this level is a team player with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members
  • Carryout the review of the project progress for all ongoing projects in Japan on regular basis and conduct the Project Monthly review with the Region Leadership team
  • Take responsibility as PM for medium and large projects as and when required and ensure project is being executed in line with GE Vernova principle
  • Ensure the projects are executed within the budget with quality in compliance with the local and GEV regulations and EHS requirements
  • Organize meetings with customers to discuss and resolve issues if necessary. Maintain good working relationships with customers, managers and engineers. Provide customer care and ensure permanent customer satisfaction
  • Prepare the monthly/quarterly and yearly unit level revenue, billing and cash forecast and ensure the forecast is being executed.
  • Support the Sales team on the tenders providing the budget for the execution and participate in tender clarification meetings.
  • Prepare the resource planning for the projects and ensure the right resources are in place for the project execution
  • Ensure the coordination with all discipline on project execution such as engineering, procurements, construction at local /region levels

Required Qualifications

  • This role requires advanced experience in Project Management & Project Engineering. Knowledge level is comparable to a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • University degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10 years minimum relevant experience in International Project activities for multi-disciplinary and working experience with the structural fabricator for projects with good knowledge of technical and contractual requirements of high voltage electrical Substation Projects.
  • Knowledge of Electrical networks and technology used in related T&D projects (involving AIS or GIS switchgear, transformers, related cable works etc.)
  • Ability to lead, manage and organize multiple teams and activities, as well as required staffing, development and training plan for the different teams.
  • Skills in planning, resource management, financial and legal/contractual aspects of project management.
  • Knowledge of project management tools, software and methodologies such as MS Project, Primavera etc.
  • An understanding and appreciation of International Standards (e.g. IEC) as well as local preferences / practices.
  • Knowledge of T&D products and systems, especially substations in transmission & distribution networks.
