Job Description Summary
The Senior Project Manager - HVDC is responsible for leading the execution of large, complex High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) projects from contract award through commissioning and closeout. This role has full accountability for project performance across safety, quality, schedule, cost, risk, and customer satisfaction. The Senior Project Manager coordinates multidisciplinary teams including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, commercial, and contract management functions to ensure successful project delivery in line with company objectives and contractual commitments and will report to the Project Director.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Leadership and Execution
- Lead with team end-to-end execution of HVDC projects, ensuring delivery in accordance with contract requirements, budget, schedule, and quality standards.
- Partner with Project Director to establish project execution strategy, governance, and delivery plans.
- Drive project performance across all phases including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Ensure alignment between project scope, execution methodology, and customer expectations.
- Manage internal and external project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide leadership to cross-functional and geographically dispersed project teams.

- Along with Project Director take ownership of project P&L, cost control, margin protection, cash flow, and financial forecasting.
- Monitor project budgets, expenditures, contingencies, and billing milestones.
- Identify and manage changes in scope, claims, variation orders, and contractual entitlements.
- Ensure robust contract/commercial management in cooperation with finance, commercial, and contract management teams.
- Drive opportunities for cost optimization and operational efficiency.
3. Schedule and Resource Management
- Support to develop and maintain integrated project schedules and key milestone plans.
- Support & ensure appropriate allocation of project resources across engineering, supply chain, site execution, and commissioning activities.
- Monitor schedule progress and implement recovery plans when needed.
- Coordinate with functional managers to secure the required competencies and capacities for successful project delivery.
4. Risk and Opportunity Management
- Lead identification, assessment, and mitigation of project risks and opportunities.
- Maintain project risk registers and ensure timely implementation of mitigation actions.
- Anticipate project execution challenges related to technology, interfaces, supply chain, construction, grid connection, and regulatory requirements.
- Escalate critical issues appropriately and propose practical solutions.
5. Customer and Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the customer on all project execution matters.
- Build strong customer relationships and ensure high levels of satisfaction and trust.
- Lead customer meetings, project reviews, progress reporting, and executive-level communications.
- Manage interfaces with consortium partners, subcontractors, suppliers, utilities, consultants, and regulatory authorities as applicable.
6. Contract and Claims Management
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and project governance requirements.
- Support interpretation of contract terms, management of obligations, and administration of key notices.
- Lead or support preparation and negotiation of claims, extensions of time, and change requests.
- Work closely with legal and contract management teams to protect company interests.
7. Quality, Safety, and Compliance
- Promote and enforce a strong culture of EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) across all project activities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, customer specifications, industry regulations, and applicable standards.
- Drive quality assurance and quality control throughout project execution.
- Ensure project lessons learned are captured and applied.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
- Master's degree is an advantage.
- Project Management certification such as PMP, IPMA, or equivalent is preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in project management, with significant experience in Large Infrastructure projects in the field of Transmission, Generation or O&G. Experience in HVDC, FACTS technologies will be an added advantage
- Proven track record of successfully delivering large, complex, multidisciplinary projects of > $100 M.
- Must have experience of working on global contracts (in multiple geographies) and hands on experience of partnering & working with global teams from various countries and cultures.
- Strong experience in managing customer contracts, project financials, risks, and claims.
- Experience in international project environments and matrix organizations preferred.
- Experience with utility, transmission system operator (TSO), or grid projects is highly desirable.
- Understanding of HVDC systems, power transmission projects, and large infrastructure delivery.
- Excellent project management capabilities across scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and stakeholder management.
- Strong technical, commercial and contractual acumen.
- Leadership skills with the ability to manage large cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and customer relationship management skills.
- Proficiency with project planning, reporting, and financial management tools.
- Familiarity with EPC contract models and consortium project execution.
- Ability to manage multicultural and geographically distributed teams.
- Strong presentation and executive reporting skills.
