Job Description Summary

The Senior Engineer - Drive controls and AI will play a pivotal role in leading software and controls team of the NTI/NPI programs of our solar, battery storage and other renewable/ industrial solutions. This position requires a seasoned engineer with a passion for innovation and a deep understanding of products and system solutions. You will lead a team of engineers in mentoring, exploring various control algorithms, by validating cutting-edge technologies that can enhance our existing products or develop entirely new ones.
This role requires, in addition to closely interacting with internal & external customers, strong inclusive team player with outcome focus & willing to work in Agile methodology of execution.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Foresee new technologies, improve the current design, create a value proposition and USP for our products by implementing latest methodologies

    Develop embedded and application layer software of Drive controls for GE Renewables Drives.

    Identify potential areas for innovation that address industry needs and challenges.

    Ability to showcase program executed on time and complete all design review

    Define the application requirements, architecture, specification and/or design and validation of inverter drive systems and auxiliary control architectures.

Develop ownership for next generation control topologies and implementation. Support the evaluation and conceptualization of new electric drives control technology and applications.

Support integration of components with controllers onto Drives for Renewables, Power systems and resolution of electric drives SW reliability issues.

Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements

Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors / Master of Engineering in EEE/ Electronics and Communication or related fields with 15 + years of engineering experience on Drive Controls and FPGA development.

    Specific expertise knowledge in our products software will be a preference

    Strong experience on multi-level inverter control, PWM strategies, stability analysis and p80i programming will be preferred

    Good experience on C, C++, VHDL, FPGA development tools preferably Altera (Intel) and Simulation/Verification tools preferably Modelsim.

    Ability to troubleshoot and identify coding structures to mitigate latency, performance and maintainability amongst other software engineers on the team.

    Good experience and knowledge on communication protocols like Modbus, Profibus, EtherCAT, Ethernet IP, EGD and OPCUA.

    Profound VHDL experience is mandatory. Must have demonstrated strong FPGA design, development and validation skills on various projects.

    Experience in AI/ML tools and software would be an added advantage.

    Ability and willingness to work "hands-on" in test labs and Customer sites

    Learning and continuous development:
  • Stay updated on the latest technological advancements from universities, research centers, and industry publications.
  • Identify promising technologies with potential applications in solar and battery storage power systems.
  • Analyze and define the technical feasibility and benefits of integrating these technologies into existing systems.
  • Showcase knowledge in existing products and ability to demonstrate the design changes and modifications

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong knowledge of Drive control Software Development & qualification for renewables

    Experience with system level validation testing

    Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools, PSCAD, MATLAB, etc
    Good oral and written communication skills
    Good interpersonal and leadership skills

    Should be able to lead multiple projects and collaborate with global teams
