Senior Electronics Hardware Manager
Job Description Summary
The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic team working on the delivery and application engineering of existing and new electronic applications, particularly for HVDC converters and the forthcoming "HVDC Grid". This is a very exciting and dynamic field of power engineering in which GE's leading contribution has worldwide recognition.
The role of Senior Electronics Hardware Manager requires autonomy involving high levels of operational judgment, focusing on eLumina hardware, HVDC and FACTs PCBA and in-house Digital Instrument Transformer maintenance, ensuring that the HVDC product deployed to customer projects and in development are proactively managed to counteract lifecycle and market pressures.
The candidate will lead a team of mixed calibre engineers within the above disciplines, develops visions and sustainable strategies and team direction to drive operational excellence in close co-operation with other functions.
Whilst based at the HVDC Centre of Excellence in Stafford there will be some international travels to collaborate with other GE teams, test laboratories, strategic suppliers and to represent the business externally.

The position requires advanced an advanced level of people leadership expertise combined with a good level of technical understanding. The candidate will likely be educated to degree level or higher in a related technical subject with a proven track record and evidence that the candidate has the in-depth experience and proven abilities to perform the role.
In addition to relevant experience, the candidate should demonstrate an ability to think innovatively and apply managerial knowledge. An enquiring mind and desire to learn new skills a willingness to share the knowledge are essential qualities.
At this level it is expected a high level of personal judgment and the ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters with minimal guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve complex tasks. Has the ability to apply analytical thinking to solve problems.
Job Description
Skills and Experience
Technical Leadership:
- Build and develop the skills and competencies within team members needed to maintain the C&P Platform, HVDC and FACTS PCBA and DCCT product lines.
- Develop and maintain processes systems, methodologies, and tools to handle departmental activities, ensuring high levels of quality.
- Collect and analyse information on performance of product quality and strive for KAIZEN approach to continuous improvement and product development.
- Prepare business proposals including the development of design methodology, staffing requirements and departmental budgets.
- Maintain and create connections with internal and external partners.
- Drive the development of the C&P system, HVDC and FACTS PCBAs and DCCT product lines through Continuous Improvement (CI) and New Product Introduction (NPI).
- Work closely with GEV Service to create the operating models and processes for spare parts and support, planning obsolescence management and customer Last Time Buy (LTB) strategies.
- Work with Supply Chain Management and have active involvement maintaining the hardware components for the C&P system, HVDC and FACTS PCBA and DCCT product lines, specifically targeting product Quality, Lifecycle, Availability, Leadtime.
- Reduce the cost of maintenance of the C&P system, HVDC and FACTS PCBA and DCCT product lines in a sustainable way
People Management:
- Co-ordinate Engineering Reviews and drive culture of quality and execution amongst team.
- Co-ordinate hiring of new Engineers and ongoing development of Engineers to close competency gaps.
- Predict the skill requirements in the medium and long term and match it with team's development plans and succession planning.
- Regularly manage and review performance of team members according to the GEV Performance Management Cycle, setting objectives and identifying developmental needs for engineers.
- Lead and manage the team ensuring performance standards, annual objectives, policies, and procedures are met.
- Proven ability to Lead, motivate and inspire a diverse team.
- Strong decision-making capabilities and ability to drive team performance.
- Familiar with Project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Prince2).
- Ability to align team objectives with organisational goals.
- Experience in developing and executing strategic plans.
