Protection & Control Designer
Job Description Summary
The Protection and Control Designer works with project/lead engineers and peer designers to create detailed engineering designs for the protection and control systems of electrical power substations, ensuring they operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with industry standards. The Protection and Control designer will be responsible to implement protection and control designs provided by project / lead engineer or based on customer standards and coordinate with other designers as needed. The Protection and Control Designer should have great attention to detail, collaborate well with the project stakeholders and shall continuously update themselves with new design technology and tools and have a mindset of continuous learning, consistent with changes in customer standards, efficiency and quality
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed electrical schematics for MV and HV substation protection and control systems, including single-line diagrams, protection schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel layouts, and control house design inputs.
- Develop high quality protection and control drawings based on project requirements and customer standards and including Safety in Design aspects.
- Develop high quality low voltage design drawing integrating LV equipment and auxiliary services such as AC and DC distribution, battery and battery chargers, etc.
- Support substation studies such as LV AC system sizing, DC batteries and battery charger sizing, or, cable voltage drop calculations.
- Is responsible for ensuring compliance with CAD standards and customer specifications across all Protection and Control design as well as substation automation / SCADA designs
- Has knowledge of design best practices, ANSI/IEEE and other relevant standards
- Provide support to new team members, including remote back office
- Perform peer reviews to identify and resolve any design errors.
- Has demonstrated experience with design tools (Autocad, Microstation, EB etc.)
- Understand and support application of design process including gate and design reviews
- Develop and share return of experience and lessons learned

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Protection and Control design for transmission, distribution, or generation substations
- Fluent in English. Strong influencing and relationship building skills. Demonstrated presentation
