Manufacturing Test Engineer (Shift based)

Job Description Summary

The Manufacturing Test Engineer will work with the Test and Production teams to improve and support the capability and capacity of the test facilities for HVDC manufacturing, across shifts. They will drive and support safe and effective use of test cells by providing hands on support, generating documentation and supporting departmental projects.

Job Description

Responsibilities - What you'll do

  • Support manufacturing test infrastructure activities, including resolving technical issues and contributing to the development of test capability, while working in a shift-based environment to ensure continuous production support
  • Provide day-to-day technical support for the running, maintenance, and breakdown response of test equipment
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new test infrastructure and tools
  • Work with suppliers and contractors to support test facility build, commissioning, and maintenance activities
  • Follow and support processes for test facilities and equipment, including change management, scheduled calibration, and preventative maintenance
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities for test facilities, including requirements input, equipment procurement, and test sequence updates
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support New Product Development (NPD), issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work with engineering teams to help define and develop manufacturing test strategies and specifications
  • Support integration of test software systems with business software systems in collaboration with IT and OT teams
  • Create and maintain training materials, SOPs, risk assessments, and other supporting documentation for test processes and equipment
  • Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities for test processes and infrastructure to improve KPIs such as OEE, throughput, and FPY
  • Carry out fault-finding, root cause investigation, and corrective actions for test equipment and process issues
  • Support test operators and technicians with troubleshooting, training, and day-to-day technical guidance

Skills & Experience - What you'll bring

Essential

  • A process driven mindset backed by a 'can do' attitude and a desire to learn
  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline
  • A strong understanding of working safely in a high voltage environment, including using tools such as risk assessments, FMEA, SSoW, LOTO, etc.
  • Demonstrable experience in structured troubleshooting to debug failed PCBs, machinery, test cells
  • 3+ years' experience in manufacturing test facility maintenance
  • Be able to communicate ideas, concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrable experience in following and improving test specifications

Desirable

  • Experience of automated test equipment (NI LabVIEW & TestStand)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of power electronics, product manufacturing and testing

Specific Abilities:

  • Able to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)
  • Proactive and self motivating
  • Highly competent in using electrical test equipment (oscilloscope, DMM, power analyser)
  • Able to deliver work to schedule and manage multiple priorities
  • Willingness to travel
  • [Desirable] Experience supporting New Product Development (NPD) activities
  • [Desirable] Exposure to lean manufacturing environment
