GE Vernova is seeking a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Specialist to lead sustainability assessments for 2GW HVDC projects within the Grid Solutions Integration (GSI) business in Berlin. This role involves conducting comprehensive LCAs, developing LCA reports for customers, supporting ecodesign initiatives, and collaborating with various business units to ensure alignment with sustainability goals. It offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on sustainable energy solutions while working with diverse teams. Ideal candidates with experience in LCA roles, strong analytical skills, and fluency in English.
Key Responsibilities:
- Life Cycle Assessment (LCA):
- Conduct detailed LCAs for 2GW HVDC projects, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Develop LCA reports for customers, highlighting environmental impacts and sustainability benefits.
- Develop Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and lead the respective certification processes.

- Ecodesign Initiatives:
- Support the integration of ecodesign principles into product development processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improving the environmental performance of HVDC projects.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with business units, customers, and external partners to ensure LCA findings are effectively communicated and implemented.
- Provide expert advice on sustainability-related matters to support business objectives.
- Partner with HVDC Communications and Commercial teams in developing communication materials related to product environmental assessment and customer product requirements.
- Communicate findings and recommendation to the wider Engineering, Sourcing and Manufacturing teams, translating environmental information into easily understood materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Data Management:
- Gather and manage environmental data from various sources, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Maintain up-to-date databases and tools for LCA analysis.
- Reporting and Presentation:
- Prepare and present LCA findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Create clear and concise reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate complex data.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay abreast of the latest developments in LCA methodologies and sustainability practices.
- Suggest improvements to LCA processes and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Master's degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Experience in conducting LCAs, preferably within the energy or engineering sector.
- Proven experience with 2GW HVDC projects or similar large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of LCA methodologies and standards (e.g., ISO 14040, ISO 14044).
- Proficiency in LCA software tools: SimaPro - mandatory; GaBi and OpenLCA (optional).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Other:
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Fluency in English; German and French language skills are a plus.
