Job Description Summary

Systems Engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process that considers both the business and technical needs of customers, with the goal of providing quality products that meet user requirements. This role executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems - encompassing identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of best designs, and verification that designs are properly integrated and executed.

The role is responsible for departmental operations planning and execution, and is focused on the delivery of professional activities within a technical discipline. The individual functions with some autonomy, guided by established policies and review of end results. Modification of procedures and practices is permitted as long as end results meet defined standards of acceptability across quality, volume, and timeliness.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of HVDC System Tests on-site in line with the requirements of the applicable project specification, ensuring tests are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards.
  • Take responsibility for control and follow-up - in collaboration with the Site Manager - of:

    • Testing and measuring equipment, including status tracking and validity of calibration certificates.
    • Safety equipment related to electrical activities on site.
  • Communicate and explain Safety Moments and daily test plans to all relevant stakeholders at the start of each working day, ensuring alignment and shared understanding across the team.
  • Perform commissioning tests using Real Time Digital Simulators (RTDS) prior to site commissioning activities, validating test procedures and expected system behavior in advance.
  • Provide regular reporting (daily and weekly) to the Commissioning Team Manager and Project Manager on the progress of system tests, highlighting risks, issues, and deviations as they arise.
  • Identify, develop, evaluate, introduce, and manage engineering solutions for product control and control system technology needs. Apply control theory and mathematical modeling to design and control systems with desired behaviors - including operability, boundary setting, cycle optimization, control logic, control-related software, sensors, hardware and software algorithms, and feedback mechanisms to govern the performance of devices, subsystems, and systems.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline combined with analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy and strategy, including direct people management responsibilities such as staffing and performance development.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others across the business; remain aware of competitive dynamics and the factors that differentiate GE Vernova in the market.
  • Apply technical experience and analytical thinking to propose solutions beyond standard parameters when addressing complex, interdependent, or technically varied challenges. Draw on multiple internal and select external sources to arrive at sound decisions.
  • Act as a resource and technical mentor for colleagues with less experience. Lead small projects with manageable risk and resource profiles. Convey performance expectations clearly, facilitate team consensus, and handle sensitive issues with appropriate judgment and professionalism.

Required Qualifications

  • For roles outside of the USA: This role requires advanced experience in Engineering/Technology and Controls Engineering. The knowledge level is comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, or a high school diploma with relevant experience.
  • For roles in the USA: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in the relevant Job Family Group(s)/Function(s).
  • Essential: Demonstrable knowledge of overall HVDC system operational behavior and the impact on equipment - sufficient to make independent, informed decisions when leading system testing activities on site.
  • Must be able and willing to work both in office and on sites worldwide for extended periods, in line with project requirements.

Desired Characteristics

  • Understanding of substation control and protection systems and HV equipment operation is highly beneficial.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex technical problems under site conditions.
  • Ability to document, plan, communicate, and execute programs effectively.
  • Established project management skills with a proactive and structured approach to delivery.
