Job Description Summary

The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for managing quality performance of assigned suppliers. Responsible for product / part qualifications. Tracks metrics & works on quality improvement plans addressing problem areas. Reviews & approves quality plans. Investigates quality escapes to provide root cause analysis & ensures effective corrective and preventive actions are taken. Mentors suppliers in the application of quality requirements and tools. Provides onsite support as needed.

Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

  • Manage supplier qualifications to ensure that assigned suppliers are capable of producing products and components that will consistently meet GE Engineering drawing and specification requirements
  • Region Coverage - west Americas region , USA
  • Own the product / manufacturing process qualifications at the assigned suppliers and ensure the satisfactory closures within the timelines needed by the business.
  • New Supplier Evaluation / on boarding - Rigorously execute the supplier evaluation process, including quality & compliance audits / assessments to ensure that only appropriately qualified suppliers are taken through the process. Work with sourcing/commodity team to meet business objectives of new supplier addition.
  • Conduct surveillance audits to assure that suppliers have effective process control, rigorous product acceptance standards, and robust quality systems
  • Facilitate the serial production needs and product release ensuring quality, aligning with the project / customer requirements
  • Organizing / performing inspections at suppliers and ensuring the product quality compliance.
  • Support customer witness inspections such as Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Customer Observation Point (COP) inspections at supplier
  • Witness the testing at independent third-party laboratories.
  • Own SRG (Supplier Responsibility Governance) metrics for the assigned suppliers and conduct SRG audits per the region audit plan and business needs.

• Collect supplier process data for Critical to Quality (CTQ) characteristics. Conduct process capability analysis. Work with suppliers to improve process capability and drive process improvement. Drive suppliers to perform Continuous Improvement projects to reduce top issue trends.

  • Manage - Supplier non-conformance NCRs and Service Notices (SN), Provide quality disposition on warranty claims and supplier recoveries, and Supplier Deviation Request (SDR) activities. Owner of process and 1st technical interface with supplier and engineering
  • Perform robust Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to solve quality issues and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Be the technical focal point in coordinating sourcing, Design Engineering & Materials and Process Engineering functions while interfacing with suppliers.
  • Drive consistency and adherence to quality procedures and specification requirements
  • Provide technical guidance to suppliers to assure product/process compliance with engineering drawings and specifications
  • Work closely with commercial, engineering and manufacturing teams to eliminate any barriers that may affect the quality and delivery of sourced components
  • Provide Sourcing Quality input to Engineering during product design reviews
  • Work with sourcing teams to develop the supplier base by developing the existing suppliers and also help identifying and approving the new supplier as needed.

Qualification/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Technical Degree) - in Electrical / Electronics Engineering
  • Minimum 8-12 Years hands on industry experience in Electrical & Electronics Field in Engineering/design, quality, manufacturing in Electrical / Instrumentation products manufacturing. Should be familiar with PCBAs, Wire Harnesses, Cables, Control Cabinets, Sensors, Transducers, Switches, Control Transformers etc
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Supply Chain, Supplier Quality
  • Strong background in interpretation of Engineering drawings/specifications, International technical standards, and manufacturing process planning/evaluation. Must have the technical knowledge to lead technical design and manufacturing reviews with suppliers.
  • Strong back ground in checking the PCBA quality
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally at short notice. Travel > 50%

Desired Characteristics:

  • Advanced Technical Degree with Electrical / instrumentation engineering background.
  • Hands on experience on Mark Vi-e control cabinets, exciter, LCI, HMI, Cyber solutions
  • Experience in Continuous improvements - Lean, Kaizen, 5's etc...
  • Knowledge and experience in the instrumentation field
  • Exposure to NDT methods such as VT, PT, MT etc
  • Well versed with the industry technical standards such as IEC, IEEE, ISO, ANSI, NEMA etc
  • Well versed with the Nuclear Industry Standards - N299.2, N299.3
  • ISO Lead auditor certified by 3rd party registrar or accepted internal GE training/certification program
  • Certified RCA Leader or other proven expertise with formal problem solving (Kepner Tregoe, 8D, Apollo, etc).
  • Experience in Power Generation equipment manufacturing industry.
  • Field experience in Gas Turbine Power Plants in quality / maintaining / operating the electrical equipment
  • Demonstrated proactive approach and issue ownership with process orientation.
  • Highly self-motivated.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $104,100.00 and $173,500.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
