Lead Specialist - Contract Management (m/f/d)

Job Description Summary

As the Lead Contract Manager for HVDC, you will play a pivotal role in delivering landmark projects that are central to Europe's energy transition. Your contributions will be highly visible and instrumental in the success of our most complex initiatives. You will lead a team of contract managers in close partnership with the Regional Contract Management leader and project leadership, providing strategic oversight to clarify and manage the commercial and technical obligations of all project stakeholders. Your work will directly impact the timely, high-quality execution of large-scale turnkey projects and the achievement of critical commercial objectives.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Project Contract Management: Assume end-to-end accountability for project contractual activities, from the initial hand-over from Sales/Commercial through to final project acceptance by the client and the resolution of all outstanding contractual obligations.
  • Strategic Partnership: Serve as a key advisor to project directors and cross-functional teams, providing guidance on contractual aspects of sourcing, procurement, engineering, site management, construction, commissioning, and testing.
  • Risk & Legal Advisory: Provide expert analysis and clarification on contractual and legal queries, working closely with the Legal department when necessary.
  • Execution Strategy: Drive project start-ups through comprehensive contract analysis and the development of robust Project Contract Commercial Plans.
  • Stakeholder & Change Management: Oversee all contractual communication, lead strategies for customer change orders, and drive margin enhancement initiatives and claim processes, including insurance-related matters.
  • Subcontractor & Supplier Relations: Analyze and define contractual rights and obligations in relation to partners. Lead the drafting, negotiation, and administration of subcontracts and amendments, ensuring key terms from the main contract are effectively mirrored in supplier agreements.
  • Warranty Support: Collaborate with service teams to manage defect notifications and resolution procedures during the warranty period.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: A degree in Engineering (ideally High-Voltage Electrical) with a strong foundation in international contract law; OR a degree in Law (construction specialization preferred).
  • Experience: Substantial experience in managing large, complex Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
  • Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to perform complex risk assessments and resolve high-stakes issues.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership capability with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills; fluency in both German and English (written and spoken) is required.
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time, primarily within Germany and the Netherlands.

  • In-depth technical knowledge, specifically regarding electrical engineering, civil works, and offshore construction projects.
