Job Description Summary
The Lead Power Electronics Integration Engineer will own the end-to-end design, integration, and validation of advanced electromechanical packaging solutions for low- and medium-voltage (LV/MV) high-power drive systems. This role requires deep expertise in power converter design, thermal and mechanical integration, and power semiconductor technology, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams from concept through to production.

The Opportunity

Designing a megawatt-scale power converter is one thing. Making it manufacturable, thermally sound, structurally robust, and ready for the most demanding environments is another challenge entirely. As Lead Power Electronics Integration Engineer at GE Vernova's Rugby site, you will lead the full electromechanical integration lifecycle for power converter systems deployed across Marine, Naval, Energy, and Industrial applications globally.

This is a senior individual contributor role that sits at the intersection of power electronics, mechanical engineering, and system design - combining technical ownership with meaningful cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead electromechanical integration design - own the full lifecycle of packaging design for power converters and enclosures, integrating power electronics, mechanical, thermal, and electrical considerations to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions; drive DfM (Design for Manufacturing) and DfA (Design for Assembly) initiatives to ensure scalability, cost-effectiveness, and high reliability.
• Design and specify power electronic systems - specify, design, and document power electronic converter solutions tailored to system and customer requirements, including air- and water-cooling design, component selection and sizing, protection systems, and mechanical concept generation in close collaboration with CAD and power electronics engineers.
• Lead verification, validation, and compliance - plan and oversee testing, verification, and validation of LV (Low Voltage) and MV (Medium Voltage) converter hardware; ensure adherence to engineering standards, health and safety regulations, and relevant international and class society requirements; maintain BOM (Bill of Materials) control and design traceability through robust configuration management.
• Analyse and validate thermal and structural performance - lead or support thermal and structural analysis including simulation, validation, and environmental testing, working with mechanical engineering specialists to confirm performance under demanding operational conditions.
• Support project delivery and cross-functional teams - ensure designs meet cost, schedule, and quality objectives; provide technical support to tendering, testing, and commissioning teams; and work with component suppliers to achieve cost-effective realisation of custom parts including wound components and cooling solutions.

About You

You are an experienced integration engineer with a strong background in power electronics packaging and electromechanical design for high-power systems, comfortable operating across both electrical and mechanical disciplines.

Required

• Degree (BEng, MEng or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline - a formal qualification is advantageous, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
• Significant experience in power electronics converter design and packaging for high-power LV and MV systems.
• Solid background in thermal management, mechanical design, and power electronics integration.
• Proficiency in design and simulation tools such as EPLAN, MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, ANSYS, or SolidWorks.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage technical deliverables across complex projects.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory frameworks applicable to high-power electronic systems.
• Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally on a short-term basis.
• Experience working with component suppliers on custom wound components and cooling solutions.
