Lead Mechanical Steampath Design Engineer

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Apply solid engineering principles and relevant standards to independently design and analyse steampath components, covering a wide range of applications from small industrial units to large nuclear steam turbines.
- Understand the operating history and configuration of steam turbine units in service through engineering record searches and data analysis.
- Adapt and optimize legacy designs to leverage modern materials and manufacturing processes, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Develop, capture, and maintain best working practices in collaboration with controlled title holders, subject matter experts, and global engineering teams.
- Review of technical documentation for the manufacturing of replacement-in-kind steampath components and upgrade/retrofit solutions.
- Provide manufacturing support and contribute to root cause analysis of component and system failures. Contribute to defining and implementing corrective actions.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to early-career engineers, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and collaboration.
- Communicate effectively within the engineering community and with project management, sourcing, and suppliers to support project and business objectives.
- Undertake occasional international travel to other engineering sites and suppliers as required.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering on steam turbine technology or a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience.
- Solid professional experience in steam turbine technology, with a focus on steampath components and mechanical design.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge in the domain, covering steam turbine steampath design, analysis, and relevant standards.
Desired Characteristics
- Systematic and structured work approach, with strong attention to detail, documentation quality, and configuration control.
- Proven experience in reviewing state-of-the-art manufacturing documentation (e.g., drawings, specifications, bills of material).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to present complex technical topics clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD tools (CATIA V5 preferred) and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with additional engineering software is an advantage.
- Collaborative and inclusive team player.
- Ability to manage multiple projects or work packages in parallel, set priorities, and meet commitments in a dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including mentoring, coaching, and conflict resolution.
- Pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset, with a focus on delivering practical, robust engineering outcomes that meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
