Lead Joining Engineer, AMRT Special Process Team

Job Description Summary
The Lead Joining Engineer will be responsible for the development, industrialization, and ongoing support of joining technologies for the Gas Power business globally. As a key member of the AMRT (Advanced Manufacturing & Repair Technology) Joining team, you will drive the industrialization of these processes across the global repair network to enhance quality and productivity. This role will ensure the integrity of joining methods through comprehensive understanding and application of heat treatment principles for process validation and quality assessment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize new joining process technologies (welding and brazing) for repairs
• Assisting component teams in implementing repair strategies and fulfilling NPI (New Product Introduction) requirements.
• Create validation plans for repair materials and various welding and brazing process technologies in conjunction with New Repair Introduction engineers.
• Ensure the successful transfer of developed processes and validate qualifications and certifications of repair service centers for their joining procedures.
• Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles, adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements.
• Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments to stakeholders.
• Maintain an in-depth knowledge of joining processes, including a variety of welding and brazing techniques, superalloy metallurgy, and associated heat treatment processes, to effectively address diverse engineering challenges and select the most appropriate method for specific applications.
• Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for assigned projects and/or tasks, consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
• Provide continuous improvement support and seek opportunities to enhance joining processes across the global repair network.
• Collaborate with supply chain, component teams, productivity departments, and other GEV organizations to identify opportunities for projects and improvements within the supply chain network.

• Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Production Engineering, or an equivalent engineering degree, or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience in manufacturing engineering, including a strong background in joining processes (welding and brazing) and associated heat treatment.
• Demonstrate strong understanding of superalloy welding and brazing metallurgy, as well as heat treatment principles essential for post-joining quality assessment.
• Knowledge of industrial gas turbine components and repair processes, such as thermal spray coating, surface finishing, sealing, machining, etc., would be advantageous.
• Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external customers across global teams.
• Good understanding of Lean methodology and continuous improvement principles (e.g., Kaizen, 5S).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical challenges into practical solutions.
• Ability and willingness to occasional travel , as required.
