Lead Engineer- Inlet systems
Job Description Summary
As a Lead design Engineer for inlet systems, you will apply a comprehensive systems engineering approach to manage the full lifecycle of inlet components, from initial concept and requirements definition through to production and operational support. You will be responsible for translating complex customer and technical needs into robust designs, performing necessary trade studies to optimize performance, and verifying that all solutions are properly integrated and executed. Operating with significant autonomy, you will lead new unit project execution, coach new team members, modify technical procedures and design practices based on lessons learnt. The role requires you to apply a systems engineering mindset to the full-lifecycle design, development, and optimization of inlet systems, while providing technical leadership and people management to ensure high-quality, market-competitive solutions.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- System Lifecycle Management & Schedule Adherence:
- Lead development from concept to site support, ensuring design changes are seamlessly cascaded across all interface components.
- KPIs: Deliver and coach others to deliver all project milestones on or before the established timeline.
- Engineering Optimization & Technical Quality:
- Execute rigorous trade studies to optimize performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- KPI: Achieve high First-Pass Yield on design/layout drawings; maintain zero "missed interface" issues during integration.

- Propose innovative solutions to address complex manufacturing challenges and interdependent production cycles.
- KPI: Reduce manufacturing non-conformances (NCRs) through clearer technical documentation and minimize rework.
- Synthesize complex internal and external data to drive strategic design decisions while maintaining awareness of competitive market factors.
- Demonstrate the ability to resolve complex engineering trade-offs and reach cross-functional consensus efficiently.
- Foster a collaborative environment by mentoring junior staff and managing performance expectations. Successfully mentor junior engineers to achieve higher levels of autonomy and ensure "lessons learned" are documented and integrated into future design standards.
- Ensure all outputs meet stringent standards for quality, volume, and differentiation.
- KPI: Maximize the use of standardized best practices while driving design improvements that enhance product competitiveness. Ensure that the lessons learnt are captured in the standard documents.
Required Qualifications
- For roles outside of the USA- This role requires advanced experience in the Engineering/Technology & Accessories. Knowledge level is comparable to a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering from an accredited university or college with 10 years of relevant experience.
- For roles in USA - Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 10 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s)).
