Lead Engineer 2 - Program Management

Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Universal Relays R&D Program Leader, the Lead Program Management Engineer is responsible for leading all the NPI and sustaining Engineering program management activities on UR, and Brick product lines in Markham.
Ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams-such as R&D, manufacturing, quality, and product management-to ensure products meet performance, cost, and reliability targets.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Delivery of any incremental feature requests or customer committed programs in accordance with the requirements as defined by Product Management and maintain compliance to established NPI process and design reviews guidelines.
  • Maintain ongoing requirements pipeline for the sustenance of the product lines.
  • Participate in annual planning for sustaining engineering budget for these product lines and manage this budget throughout the year.
  • Own sustaining engineering activities such as ongoing production support, quality issue resolution, field issues response, supplier interaction, end of life component management, cost out projects and ECO management.
  • Own and Deliver projects utilizing proven methodologies in Project Management e.g. PMI PMBOK, Safe etc.
  • Create and maintain detailed program plans while controlling requirements/scope, holding the responsible parties accountable to deadlines, maintaining risk logs, leading project meetings and chairing project gate reviews
  • Liaise with stakeholders such as Product leaders, Principal engineers, EHS, Safety, Quality, IP, Cyber and People leaders for timely & quality execution of the NPI projects.
  • Report to key stakeholders - Status, KPIs, Budgets, Risk Register, supporting Decisions & Escalations where needed
  • Motivate a matrix team to deliver complex and critical projects on scope, time, cost (full budget control) and quality requirements following proper gate review processes, and deliver a cyber secure products.
  • Coordinate where necessary with global teams, other functions including ITO, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance and Marketing, EHS, Safety, Quality, IP, Cyber, Technical Regs & Standards, and other functions.
  • Program Increment release paperwork and chair NPI Gate Reviews, Aligning Objectives with Program Sponsors, Product Managers, Principal Engineers & Team
  • Be a single point of contact for these product lines in technical and program management context when it comes to cross-functional touch points.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (hardware, firmware, software, validation, application engineering).
  • Support product demonstrations, and technical training as required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Project Management in a multi-disciplinary team's context and in the capacity of managing sustaining engineering activities, electronic printed circuit boards assembly (PCBA) design, manufacturing process knowledge and transition into manufacturing skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years expertise in protection and control systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desired Skills

  • Experience in Agile product development and backlog management.
  • Experience in protection relay engineering, system integration, or product ownership in the power systems protection and control field strongly preferred.
