Lead Electrical Engineer - Product Owner of Electrical Component Design

Today Tampere, Finland

Job Description Summary

As the Lead Product Owner for Electrical Component Design, you will lead the strategic and technical development of primary equipment solutions for FACTS systems across both ITO and OTR phases. This role is focused on technical authority, specification review, and cost-optimization of electrical components and their integration into the system. You will function with high autonomy, making critical decisions that balance customer requirements with business standards. Your role is key to ensuring that all component specifications and supplier designs are accurate, safe, and cost-competitive from the initial ITO bid through to project execution and OTR delivery.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Component Ownership & Review: Act as the final technical authority for electrical primary equipment during both ITO and OTR. Lead the review and validation of technical specifications for components such as reactors, capacitors, and instrument transformers based on SLD and system requirements.
  • Supplier Design & Assembly Drawing Review: Responsible for the thorough review and approval of supplier technical documentation, assembly drawings, and installation guides throughout the project lifecycle. Ensure that component designs are seamless and that the BOM is accurate for both bidding and site execution.
  • Technical Governance & Standards: Define and validate the standards for component selection and testing requirements for proposals and executed projects. Oversee the review of FAT results and type tests to ensure compliance with international standards and project specifications during the OTR phase.
  • ITO and OTR Support: Lead the technical validation of CBC alignments during the ITO phase. Ensure a smooth technical transition to the OTR team and provide continuous engineering support to ensure project success and compliance during execution.
  • Cost Optimization & Standardization: Identify and eliminate over-specification in component designs with a cost-out mindset. Drive the strategy for component standardization to reduce lead times and site costs in both tendering and project execution.
  • Interface Management: Act as the key technical contact between Systems Engineering, Layout Design, and Suppliers to resolve technical conflicts and optimize the electromechanical integration of electrical components throughout the ITO and OTR stages.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Act as a senior technical resource, leading small projects and initiatives. Foster a First Time Right culture through rigorous reviews and bring multidisciplinary teams to consensus on component-related decisions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive a mindset to optimize component performance and champion the use of digital tools to enhance design accuracy and supplier collaboration across the business.

Required Qualifications:

  • This role requires advanced experience in Electrical Engineering with a focus on High Voltage or Medium Voltage primary equipment and power systems. Knowledge level is comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Extensive experience in specifying electrical components and reviewing complex supplier technical drawings and assembly documentation for both tendering and project execution.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Advanced Technical Expertise: Strong understanding across electrical component technology, SLD interpretation, busbar study, EMF study, noise study and insulation coordination in both ITO and OTR environments.
  • Quality & Compliance Awareness: Ability to perform sanity checks on supplier designs and validate testing procedures for project delivery.
  • Cost-Out & Standardization Mindset: Proven ability to identify and eliminate unnecessary costs in equipment selection and specification.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to distinguish between core requirements and nice-to-have features to ensure project competitiveness.
  • Stakeholder Influence: Excellent skills in leading technical negotiations with suppliers and influencing internal stakeholders.
  • Digital Proficiency: Familiarity with electrical design tools, BOM management systems, and business enablement tools.
