Job Description
GE Vernova - Grid Systems Integration (GSI) is seeking an experienced Project Engineering Manager to lead the technical coordination and delivery of the Onshore scope for a 2GW HVDC transmission project in Germany. This is a multi-year EPC contract valued at over $1B and forms part of a strategic partnership with TenneT to connect offshore wind to the German and Dutch grids.
In this role, you will oversee the entire design lifecycle for the onshore HVDC converter station, ensuring all engineering deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards. You will manage cross-disciplinary teams, coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors, and be accountable for cost, schedule, and quality performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate all engineering activities for the onshore HVDC scope.
- Develop, issue, and consolidate the project's master drawing list and integrate it with the design schedule.
- Manage the overall timeline for engineering deliverables, ensuring alignment with procurement, construction, and commissioning milestones.
- Define and control technical interface requirements with partners, customers, and contractors.
- Ensure timely delivery of design packages, including partner and subcontractor documentation, with required quality.
- Support the Project Engineering Director in managing design changes, claims, and budget adjustments.
- Supervise and coordinate primary, secondary, and civil design teams.
- Monitor engineering budgets, identify cost-saving opportunities, and control scope changes.
- Lead multidisciplinary design reviews and verify compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Apply engineering tools (CAD, PDM/DMS) as per project strategy.
- Integrate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements into design activities, including leading HAZID sessions.
- Track and report engineering performance using key indicators.
Your Profile
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience, including hands-on work with HVDC station equipment and design.
- Proven experience in customer-facing project technical management within international, multi-disciplinary teams involving multiple interfaces.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multidisciplinary stakeholders effectively.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in German is an advantage.
- Solid knowledge of power transmission and distribution systems.
- Experience with engineering KPIs and performance monitoring.
- Decisive and results-oriented engineer who confidently manages multiple complex priorities, takes ownership of critical decisions, and knows how to balance competing tasks to keep projects on track.
