Job Description
What You'll Do
Core Engineering Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and verify HVDC Control and Protection systems, with a strong focus on engineering design-not just testing or validation
EMT modelling of HVDC systems, AC network equivalents, and renewable systems (wind parks, solar PV, etc.) in PSCAD
Convert or model AC network equivalents in RSCAD and interface with control and protection hardware equipment to validate control and protection systems
System Analysis & Optimization:
Analyze and improve the performance of HVDC Control and Protection systems through:
Dynamic performance studies
Protection coordination studies
AC/DC interaction studies
Harmonic stability performance
Business Support Activities:
Support tendering, operations, contractual, and after-sales activities including:
Analyzing requirements for HVDC protection systems based on customer specifications, grid codes, and international standards
HVDC system modelling in PSCAD and RTDS
AC network modelling and validation in RTDS and PSCAD
Dynamic performance studies using both offline and online simulation tools
Renewable AC network (solar, wind parks) modelling and validation in PSCAD and RSCAD
Conversion of PSS/E AC networks to PSCAD models

Technical Contribution:
Participate in engineering design reviews and provide technical input
Identify potential project risks and technical weaknesses, and propose safe, reliable, and compliant solutions
Ensure project plans include all necessary activities and studies to meet customer and technical requirements
Support improvements to existing algorithms and strategies for power fault recovery or instability issues
Contribute to the development of new strategies for control, protection, and sequencing (start-up/shutdown)
Process Improvement:
Contribute to continual improvement by introducing new tools, methods, and process improvements
Promote a standard product methodology, seeking opportunities to reuse solutions
Foster collaboration across projects and ensure Return of Experience is incorporated
Essential Requirements
Education & Experience:
Engineering degree or equivalent (including power systems and power electronics), or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in the HVDC business
Demonstrated experience in HVDC control and protection system design, implementation, and verification (not just validation or commissioning)
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of functional characteristics and interactions between AC and HVDC systems
Knowledge of HVDC control, protection, and sequencing strategies
Hands-on proficiency with PSCAD and RSCAD simulation tools
Experience with system modelling and analysis
Professional Skills:
Excellent communication and client engagement skills
Strong written and verbal communication in English
Experience creating and presenting technical reports
Ability to respond to client questions and participate in technical discussions
Strong sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage technical risks
Work Style:
Results-driven and adaptable
Able to work to deadlines under pressure while maintaining safety, quality, and engineering integrity
Flexible with working hours and willing to travel globally to support projects
Alternative Experience Welcome
If you do not have direct HVDC experience, we also welcome candidates with strong backgrounds in:
Power system studies, including dynamic performance analysis
Experience with PSCAD or similar simulation tools
System analysis to evaluate and understand system behavior (including RMS and EMT studies, grid code compliance, and network stability analysis)
Application areas such as wind farm integration, HVDC VSC systems, or LLC systems
Preferred Qualifications
Process improvement or Root Cause Analysis (RCA) experience or certification
Ability to define requirements and ensure adherence to best practices
Previous experience working in the HVDC industry
