Fuel Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Job Description Summary
The Engineering Manager will provide leadership to a diverse technical team of dedicated manufacturing leaders in support of Global Nuclear Fuel's Manufacturing team. Senior member of the leadership team responsible for fuel manufacturing engineering, including existing and new fuel manufacturing equipment design and upgrade, and process improvement. This manager will work collaboratively with our leadership team to ensure successful and continuous operations for our facility. The leader will also assist operations and maintenance in process improvements and daily operations troubleshooting.
Job Description
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Embrace Global Nuclear Fuel's nuclear safety culture, where work is performed with an overriding priority on integrity, safety, security and quality.
- Provide technical and managerial leadership for the Fuel Manufacturing Engineering team, including Fuel Component Operation (FCO) and Fuel Manufacturing Operation (FMO) teams, and the development of advanced manufacturing capabilities including equipment and deployment of capital projects.
- Leader of a ~30-person technical team, including manufacturing engineering managers responsible for manufacturing nuclear fuel for commercial nuclear power plants.
- Lead the design and/or upgrade of manufacturing equipment, devices, systems and processes for fuel fabrication including both mechanical and electrical/instrumentation aspects of equipment. Ensure proper process and equipment development and qualification.
- Inspire, hire, coach and ensure the development of the team's technical talent/depth.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with other internal managers, business leaders, project managers and stakeholders.
- Interface with external partners, customers, the NRC, or other applicable regulatory agencies as needed on technical issues.
- Responsible for understanding Items Relied On For Safety (IROFS) and other safety controls for equipment and able to design, implement, execute, and review Function Test Instructions (FTIs) to ensure operability.
- Provide leadership supporting performance and program management of key activities and projects. Ensure on-time fulfillment of engineering commitments in accordance with industry standards and regulatory agency guidelines.
- Promote continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing. Identify and implement proactive solutions for incremental and step change process improvements related to safety, quality and output through use of Lean and Six Sigma tools.
- Provide the oversight and be responsible to plan, organize and manage the delivery of technical activities/tasks in support of engineering deliverables.
- Support critical business initiatives, process improvement, simplification, built in quality and design to cost.
- Support GNF quality requirements, including participation in design reviews, initiating, and responding to corrective actions.
- Develop a productivity pipeline and collaborate on long term strategy needs to support manufacturing.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (technical)
- 8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, nuclear engineering, nuclear operations or equivalent discipline.
- 3 years of experience in a technical manufacturing leadership role
Eligibility Requirements
- Walk up and down stairs. Occasionally climb ladders.
- Crawling, kneeling, crouching, reaching around manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to use computers. Frequent use of computer equipment.
- For Controlled Access Area: must be able to successfully pass a Nuclear Safety Training Test; follow strict radiation protection, criticality, and industrial safety regulations; wear protective clothing to enter the area.
- Must be able to relocate to Wilmington, NC. Daily in-person presence at the Wilmington facility is expected.
- Willingness to respond to critical business issues outside of regular working hours.

Desireable Qualifications
- MS degree in Science or Engineering.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and process engineering skills.
- Experience with manufacturing, ceramic and/or metal processing and handling. (Welding, Pilgering, Machining, Sintering, Ceramic Powder manufacturing, etc.)
- Familiar with operation, troubleshooting and application of industrial equipment and processes such as automated welders, motors, valves, gears, mixing, heating, cooling, chemical reactions, furnaces, heat exchangers, hoods, vibrators, hydraulics etc.
- Experience with manufacturing equipment design, specification, requisitioning, testing and installation, including management of capital and expense projects.
- Experience with NRC Regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) or Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA).
- Experience working with customers, regulators and suppliers
- Experience with software configuration/change management
- Experience supporting 24/7 chemical/manufacturing processes
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and proven track record of implementation
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems and develop others to do the same
- Demonstrated ability to establish and deploy strategy in the form of simple priorities through a layered organization
- Ability to interpret engineering documentation, such as drawings, P & IDs, etc
- Demonstrated strong project management skills and success working on cross-functional teams. Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion, including cost and schedule control.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team to drive impactful results

- Strong interpersonal and technical leadership skills.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with PC and productivity software [examples include MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint]

Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes
For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $144,000.00 and $240,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
