Job Description Summary

Power Train Dynamics and Diagnostics (PTDD) is a global team which is responsible for vibration aspects of the entire scope of Gas Power rotating equipment, including Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, Generators and interfacing systems. With a commitment to a complete product lifecycle, PTDD drives a successful integration of rotating and stationary components in a power train shaft-line (NPI, ITO, OTR) together with a technical leadership to support data driven and physics-based resolution of vibration field issues (RCA, ER, NCR).

As an Engineer on the PTDD team, you will analyze successful power train designs using the latest analytical tools, and establish resolutions for customer issues focused on shaft line vibration. You will help drive solutions for complex issues, bridging together the design and services focus areas of the team.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical deliverables in the area of rotordynamics and shaft-line components design throughout the businesses to include Gas, Steam, Generator, manufacturing and sourcing procurement: rotor T&L (Torsional & Lateral) analysis, rotor alignment procedures, blade out loads calculation, input for power train foundation specification, functional requirements for bearings and SSS clutches, modeling and prediction of field units' dynamic behavior
  • Provide troubleshooting support globally for field shaft line vibration issues (gas turbines, steam turbines, generators), resolving technical issues timely and efficiently
  • Work with field teams to assure that all assets meet design intention in as built condition for successful customer operation
  • Support root cause investigations for issues with significant customer specific or fleet wide impact from initial investigation through the CAPA phase
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers
  • Contribute to high-quality technical documentation (including Design Practices, Standard Work Processes) and consolidate lessons learned from the field for continuous improvement

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Physics
  • A minimum of 0-3 years of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or controls related experience

Desired Characteristics

  • Problem analysis and resolution skills with a focus on vibration or powertrain dynamics (Gas Turbine, Steam turbine & Generator)
  • Experience with vibration data collection systems (preferably ADRE), instrumentation, and other equipment, and testing often completed to support rotating component and structural vibration diagnostics (impact testing, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with others on the solution to complex issues across teams.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
