Deputy Project Director
Job Description Summary
The Deputy Project Director oversees non-turnkey or equipment-only projects and/or specific parts of turnkey projects (under the leadership of a Project Director) in the Hydropower sector, managing project resources and ensuring successful delivery.
This role involves strategic leadership, profit & loss accountability, and driving customer satisfaction. With a focus on operational excellence, the position requires strong decision-making, problem-solving, and the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
The Deputy Project Director will lead teams to deliver creative solutions, optimize processes, and drive project success within a complex, dynamic environment. The role requires spending significant time on project sites in Pakistan.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Non-Turnkey Projects or Product/Equipment-Only Projects. Responsible for overseeing the project and direct or indirect leadership and/or management of project resources for small-medium sized projects (size in relation to GE Vernova company) that may include equipment-only, suites of products or non-turnkey projects. Alternatively, the Deputy Project Director may be overseeing parts of large turnkey projects, led by Project Directors.
- Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
- Interprets internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Utilizes understanding of industry trends to inform decision making process.
- Leads others to find creative solutions within complex manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Employs sophisticated operational/product management, manufacturing or engineering techniques. Interaction with adjacent functions needed to solve issues. Has the ability to evaluate quality of information received and questions conflicting data for analysis. Uses multiple internal and external resources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
- May lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Presents business or technical discipline solutions to leaders. Communicates complex messages and negotiates mainly internally with others to adopt a different point of view. Influences peers to take action and may negotiate with external partners, vendors, or customers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering
- minimum 5 years of experience in managing Engineering & Construction projects in a matrix international organization. Site experience highly valued.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally in the region as required (travel time may be above 50% in some phases of the project)
- Position might be based at site during installation phases as and when required

Desired Characteristics
- Experience with rotational equipment (turbines, generators) is highly preferred
- Strong project management & leadership skills
- Experience with Hydropower industry projects
- Experience with Consortiums
- Experience within matrix, cross-functional and global team organizations Strong oral and written communication
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
- Additional languages skills would be a plus (particularly Chinese)
