Controls Software Engineer
Job Description Summary
The Control Software Engineer will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic team of engineers working on requirements, design, development and maintenance of control and protection system application software for LCC and VSC HVDC schemes following full SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).
Job Description
As a Control Software Engineer, you will report within the Product Care Department. The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic, and growing team of engineers working on the design of HVDC Control Systems. This is a very exciting and dynamic field of control engineering in which GE's leading contribution has worldwide recognition.
The Product Care function maintains Control and Protection application software, platform, valve electronics, handling obsolescence and implementing a life cycle process for the parts included, including what and when to communicate to customers, internal as well as external.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overall requirements, design, implementation and testing of HVDC Control and Protection application software.
- Work as part of an expert team, giving ample opportunity for learning design and development skills highly relevant for working with any control and protection system; in particular, power electronics systems and grid technology.
- Execute the analysis, simulation, test, and integration required to define, and support assigned components, modules or systems that meet business standards.
- Apply prior experience and on the job training to solve problems. Propose and discuss different solution and develop in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline with guidance.
- Active participation in continuous improvement activities.
Qualifications / Essential Requirements:
- Engineering degree in Computer Science or power systems and power electronics subjects or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in HVDC business.
- Familiar with design and development of event and rate driven application software for control and protection systems.
- Understand functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between AC and HVDC systems.
- Knowledge of PSCAD and MATLAB-SIMULINK simulation tools.
- Familiar with Agile Software development practices.
- Experience using Git, Jira and Confluence for version control, task/defect management and documentation.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills and can-do attitude.
Desired characteristics:
- Awareness of RCA, process improvements.
- Experience working in HVDC industry.
- Knowledge of HVDC Control, Protection and Sequencing strategy.
