What we're looking for in our Director - Underwriting Operations

You're a strategic underwriting leader who thrives at the intersection of risk management, operational excellence and people leadership. If there were a Jeopardy! category called "Foundations of Underwriting," you'd know every answer-and you also get excited about modernizing workflows and leveraging data to improve how work gets done.

Leading across product lines, partnering with Sales and Client Management and representing Underwriting as a trusted voice in enterprise-level decisions? Check. Check. And check. Here's how you'll help shape underwriting outcomes that support our people, partners and customers around the world:

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Lead underwriting operations across Corporate and Student product segments.
  • Design and evolve underwriting workflows, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure service timelines, accuracy and financial performance.

Data, Pricing & Risk Management

  • Own underwriting pricing models and tools.
  • Analyze claims data and risk drivers.
  • Support plan design and cost containment strategies.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Serve as Underwriting representative on enterprise initiatives.
  • Partner with Sales and Client Management.
  • Work with Blue Cross entities on audits and data requests.

People & Culture

  • Build, coach and develop underwriting talent.
  • Support performance, learning and employee engagement.
  • Ensure training and underwriting standards are met.

Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor productivity and quality metrics.
  • Reduce key-person dependencies.
  • Champion data-driven process improvement.

This might be the right role for you if...

  • You bring 10+ years of senior-level group health underwriting experience with 5+ years of people management experience.
  • You hold a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field.
  • You believe the best employee and customer experiences are built through strong collaboration and cross-functional partnership.
  • Past leaders would describe you as highly analytical, a clear communicator, and a strong leader.
  • You're comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
